3.2 Indicators
Liquid crystal display
The liquid crystal display (LCD) gives an indication of the parameter being measured in the units
appropriate to the selected range.
When TRACE, PLANE SHORTS or [] is selected, the display is uncalibrated but proportional to the
reading at the probes.
The display is also uncalibrated if the UNCALIBRATED LED is lit.
Plane Shorts direction arrows
Four LED indicators under the LCD display indicate the direction in which the Plane Probe should be
moved to locate the fault. The indicators operate as follows:
Probe Unconnected Probe Distant Close to Fault
All LEDs off Direction LED on All LEDs on
Uncalibrated LED
Lit in the 200mA and 2A ranges during ranging or when the Needle Probes are too close together for an
accurate measurement of the current to be displayed.
Probes Reversed LED
Lit when the Needle Probes are connected to a negative voltage or current.
Drive Source LED
Lit when the Drive Source leads are connected correctly and a current greater than 4mA (approximately)
is flowing from the Drive Source.
3.3 Controls
Volume
Adjusts the volume of the speaker or Headphone output.
Drive Source
Adjusts the amplitude of the Drive Source output (0-550mV approximately). The DRIVE SOURCE LED
lights when Drive Source current is flowing.
Adjusts sensitivity in PLANE SHORTS to accommodate different plane resistances.
