2.3 Going through self-tests and background calibration
During self-tests procedures the display first shows message with
firmware version [P-X.X],
message bAtt” and remaining battery power in relative units on the analog
scale.
Then the message “tESt” is displayed and the unit will perform its self-
test procedures.
After the self-tests are completed the instrument goes to the
background calibration. Message CAL (calibration) is activated on the
display during this process, the instrument measures radiation background
and calculates threshold values using the specified values of the n coefficients.
When self-tests and background calibration are finished, the PM1401MA is ready for
operation.
2.4 Operation Modes
In order to meet the demands of every user, PM1401MA can be customized according
to the user’s requirements by means of enabling/disabling various instrument settings and
operation modes. The following operation modes and options are available for the regular
PM1401MA:
Search Mode designed mainly for detection and location of gamma radioactive
sources. The readings of the instrument’s gamma detector are displayed in counts per second
(s
-1
) and the search algorithm based on background calibration is used;
Measurement Mode designed for measurement of the dose rate of gamma
radiation. In this mode the instrument alarms only in case the safety thresholds is exceeded;
To toggle between various operation modes, the MODE button is used.
