Why is my Polygroup Water Pump not pumping water or the flow is very slow?
    • M
      Melissa GillAug 25, 2025
If your Polygroup Water Pump isn't pumping water or the flow is very slow: * Clear any obstructions in the pool outlet fitting and pump intake hose. * Tighten hose clamps, check hoses for damage and check pool water level to resolve a potential air leak on the intake line. * Backwash the sand bed more frequently if the sand media is clogged with dirt. * Replace about 1" (25mm) of sand if there's crusting or caking on the filtering sand surface. Replace all the sand if the problem persists. * Remove any pool vacuuming device attached to the system line.

How to troubleshoot a Polygroup Lighting Equipment pump motor that fails to start?
    • S
      Sarah BanksAug 29, 2025
If the Polygroup Lighting Equipment pump motor fails to start, ensure the set is plugged into a grounded power outlet and press the RESET button. Also, verify the line voltage is between 215VAC and 245VAC. If the issue continues, a qualified electrician should check the circuit. It's also possible the motor overheated; allow it to cool down before restarting.

What to do if my Polygroup Lighting Equipment pump doesn’t work?
    • W
      William SimpsonAug 30, 2025
If your Polygroup Lighting Equipment pump isn't working, first ensure the water level reaches the FILL LINE on the pool wall. Next, check and clean the suction fitting strainer. Also, inspect the intake hose for any damage and tighten the hose clamps. If these steps don't resolve the issue, it could be a faulty motor or a jammed impeller, in which case, no answer.

What to do if my Polygroup Water Pump motor fails to start?
    • M
      Mrs. Claire MaddoxAug 23, 2025
If the Polygroup Water Pump motor fails to start: * Ensure the GFCI power cord is plugged into a grounded 3-prong power outlet. * Check that the line voltage is in the range of 105 to 125 Volts A.C. * Reset the GFCI plug and/or circuit breaker. If the problem continues, have the circuit checked by a qualified electrician. * Allow the motor to cool down before restarting it, as the overload protection may have shut it off due to overheating.

Why is there sand in my Polygroup Lighting Equipment pool?
    • M
      Micheal GreerSep 1, 2025
If sand ends up in your Polygroup Lighting Equipment pool, it could be due to the sand being too small for the pump. You should only use #20 grade silica sand with a particle size range of 0.45-0.85 mm (0.018-0.033 inches) and a uniformity coefficient less than 1.75. Another cause could be a calcified sand bed, in which case you should discard all the used sand and replace it with new sand.

Overview

This document serves as an owner's manual for the Summer Waves Sand Filter Pump, designed for above-ground swimming pools, specifically models ST1100 (10") and ST1600 (12"). It provides comprehensive instructions for setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, emphasizing safety precautions throughout.

The primary function of this device is to filter and circulate water in above-ground swimming pools, ensuring water clarity and hygiene. It utilizes #20 silica sand as a filtration medium, which can be purchased from local home improvement or building material stores. The manual explicitly warns against using incorrect sand, as it may damage the filtration system and void the warranty.

Usage Features:

The sand filter pump is equipped with a 6-Port Valve, which offers multiple functions for pool maintenance:

  • BACKWASH: This setting reverses the water flow to clean the sand bed, preventing fine sand from entering the pool and washing away accumulated dirt and debris. It is recommended to backwash when the pressure reading is 1-1.5 bar (14.5-21.8 psi) above the initial pressure or at least once every two weeks. The Blue Drain Outlet Cap must be removed before using this setting and replaced afterward.
  • RINSE: After backwashing, the RINSE function levels out the sand bed. Similar to backwash, the Blue Drain Outlet Cap must be removed and replaced. Rinsing should be performed for one minute.
  • FILTER: This is the normal operating mode for filtration and vacuuming the pool.
  • WASTE: This setting allows for direct vacuuming to the drain, which helps lower the pool water level. The Blue Drain Outlet Cap must be removed and replaced.
  • RECIRCULATE: This function circulates water without filtering it.
  • CLOSED: This position shuts off the water flow between the sand filter system and the pool. It is crucial not to switch on the pump when the valve is in this position.
  • NULL: This setting is for winterizing and storage, allowing for excess water flow.

The pump is designed for ease of use, with clear instructions for connecting hoses and fittings. It includes a GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter) power cord set with a pre-set timer function. The default operating time is 10 hours, after which the pump automatically turns off for 14 hours, following a 24-hour cycle. Users can adjust the operating time from 1 to 10 hours using the "SET" button. The manual provides detailed instructions on how to test the GFCI's leakage protection function, emphasizing safety by ensuring the pump stops working if a ground current is detected.

For installation, the manual outlines steps for setting up the pool, installing suction and return fittings, and assembling the pump onto its base. It highlights the importance of aligning the clamp hinge with the ridge on the 6-Port Valve flange for a secure fit. The sand tank should be filled with #20 silica sand, ensuring the sand level is between the Min and Max marks on the Center Pipe.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and efficient operation of the sand filter pump.

  • Sand Bed Maintenance: Backwash the sand bed regularly, as indicated by pressure readings or at least every two weeks. At the end of the swimming season, all sand should be discarded, and new sand should be used at the beginning of the next season.
  • Cleaning: The pump components, sand tank, and 6-port valve should be thoroughly washed with fresh water before storage.
  • Leak Checks: Daily checks for reduced flow and leaks in the pump, hoses, and fittings are recommended. The troubleshooting guide provides solutions for common leakage issues, including checking gaskets, tightening hose clamps, and inspecting connections.
  • Pump Motor Care: The pump is protected by a thermal switch that automatically shuts it off if it overheats. If this occurs, users should check and correct the water flow, allow the motor to cool for at least 15 minutes, and inspect for blockages in the rotor.
  • Pool Water Care: The manual stresses the importance of maintaining proper chlorine and pH levels at all times, as the filter pump alone cannot prevent algae growth. It recommends daily checks and adjustments of pH and chlorine, with recommended levels between 7.3-7.8 for pH and 1.0-1.6 ppm for chlorine. Superchlorination every other week is also advised. Users are cautioned against high chlorine concentrations and low pH levels, which can damage the pool liner. The manual also suggests using a test kit, floating chlorine dispenser, pH control chemicals, algaecides, and a leaf net for comprehensive pool water care.
  • Winterizing and Storage: For off-season storage, the manual provides steps to unplug the power cord, loosen hose clamps, remove hoses, drain water from the sand tank, and lubricate O-rings. The 6-Port Valve should be turned to the "NULL" position, and the pump should be allowed to dry completely before storing it in a cool, dry environment above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Safety Information:

The manual includes extensive safety warnings, such as preventing drowning by supervising children, avoiding diving into shallow water, and staying away from drains and suction fittings to prevent entrapment. It also provides electrical safety guidelines, including connecting to a grounding-type receptacle, using a GFCI, and maintaining a safe distance from electrical outlets. The document references various safety standards and organizations like ASME, ANSI, APSP, and NEC, highlighting the importance of adhering to local and state building codes for pool installation and safety barriers.
