Control
System
In
conjunction
with
the
lambda
sensor
and
the
electronic
control
unit,
the
controlled
three-way
catalyti
c
converter
represents
the
most
effective
emission
control
system.
To
assure
the
efficiency
of
the
emission
control
system,
always
have
your
car
serviced
at
the
specified
intervals
.
The
system
consists
of
several
components
:
the
catalytic
converter
the
lambda
sensor
the
electronic
control
unit
the
tank
ventilation
system
To
avoid
permanent
damage
to
the
functiorr
ality
of
catalytic
converter
and
lambda
serr
sor,
use
only
unleaded
fuel.
The
tank
ventilation
system
prevents
fuel
va-
pours
escaping
from
the
tank
into
the
atmos-
phere.

Tips
on
Driving
Faults
in
the
mixture
formation
system
can
cause
overheating
and
damage
to
the
catalytic
converter.
For
this
reason,
it
is
imperative
that
the
following
points
are
observed.
Avoid
frequent
and
prolonged
operation
of
the
starter
motor
if
the
engine
does
not
start
.
If
backfiring
occurs
while
driving
(identifiable
by
rough
running
of
the
engine
or
loss
of
power),
have
the
malfunction
immediately
corrected
at
the
nearest
Official
Porsche
Centre.
Never
drive
until
the
fuel
tank
is
completely
empty
.
Undersealing
Do
not
apply
additional
undersea!
or
rust
protec-
tion
on
or
near
the
exhaust
manifold,
exhaust
pipes,
catalytic
converter
or
heat
shields
.
With
the
engine
running,
the
protective
material
may
overheat
and
ignite.
Parking
Never
park
your
car
or
run
the
engine
where
there
is
a
danger
of
flammable
material
such
as
dry
grass
or
leaves
coming
into
contact
with
the
hot
exhaust
system.
Tow-starting
Cars
with
a
catalytic
converter
should
only
be
tow-started
or
bump-started
if
the
engine
is
cold
.
