Line 1 is the serial number which is not marked as the MarkLine parameter is set to
No. The following 3 lines each mark 4 characters of the serial number at different Z
heights to compensate for the curve of the part. The X and Y values of each line
position the characters so they appear continuous when marked.
Data Entry via Prompt Mode
This mode provides a simplified user interface for the machine operator. In this
mode the software will prompt, step by step, for the layout name and any variables
to be typed or scanned (using a barcode scanner). When the details are entered the
screen displays a preview of the mark, pressing F1 or the green start button will then
mark the layout. Each variable has a configurable prompt value which is displayed
during the data entry.
To configure an example of the Data Entry via Prompt mode, follow the procedure
below.
1. From the main menu press F10, F10, F3, F6) Various Menu.
2. Switch the ‘Use Layout/Data Prompt’ to ‘On’
3. Press ESC 4 times to return to the main menu.
4. Create a new layout by pressing F8.
5. Type some text on lines 1 and 2.
6. Set the line ‘Content’ to ‘Data Entry via Prompt’ on lines 1 and 2. (Press TAB or
F2 while on the line to display this setting)
7. Set the Prompt value for line 1 to ‘Batch Code’ and for line 2 ‘Serial Number’
(Press TAB or F2 while on the line to display this setting)
8. Position lines 1 and 2 so they can be marked on a test part or plate. (Press
ENTER while on the line to display the X & Y settings)
9. Escape back to the main menu and save the layout (using F2). Save the layout
with the name ‘DATATEST’.
10. If you are using an RS232 barcode scanner, to configure this in this mode press
F10, F10, F3, F8 from the main menu. Then set either Port A or Port B to ‘Layout via
Prompt’, ensure that the Baud, Parity and Flow control match the settings of the
scanner. (Note the scanner must be configured to transmit an <STX> prefix and an
<ETX> suffix.).
11. To test the layout return to the main menu and press F1.
12. The screen will now request the user to scan or type the layout name. Type
‘DATATEST’ and press ENTER.
13. The screen will then prompt for the ‘Batch Code’. Type ‘123’ and press ENTER.
14. The screen will then prompt for the ‘Serial Number’. Type ‘456’ and press
ENTER.
15. The screen will then display the mark preview. Now press F1 or the green start
button to mark the data.
16. When the mark is complete the screen will prompt for the layout name to be
entered again and the process repeats from step 12 above.
Using the Multi-Mark option.
If marking batches of the same part using the same layout, rather than having to
scan the part number (layout name) on every mark. It is possible to do this once and
enter the quantity to be marked. The software will then loop around prompting only
