Product Descriptions

Water Heater Installation

Checking Equipment Before You Install

Inspect unit and parts upon receipt for damage or shortage. Contact carrier if issues are found.

Codes

Install according to manual, markings, and local regulations. Consult authorities before installation.

Electrical Requirements

Unit wired for 120VAC/1ph/60Hz. Must be grounded per NEC. Use copper wire.

Location

Locate in clean, dry area near usage points and utilities. Ensure firm, level foundation.

Installation

Use safe rigging methods. Remove shipping supports. Provide front clearance for maintenance. Install shut-off valves.

Service Clearances and Clearance to Combustibles

Maintain minimum clearances from combustible materials. Recommended clearances are 24" top/front, 18" sides.

General Guidelines

Water Inlet; Outlet Connections

Connect directly to tank flanges. Use unions for service. Ensure piping is suitable for potable water and temperatures.

Boiler Water Piping

Piping must be supported. Size appropriately, include strainer, valves, gauges, and over-pressure protection.

Relief Valve Piping

Valve must be piped to a suitable floor drain. No restrictions in discharge line. Manually operate annually.

Filling the Unit

Fill with water, open relief valve to purge air. Use water treatment for hard water. Check for leaks.

Operating and Safety Controls

Operating Temperature Control

Adjustable thermostat in control panel, factory pre-set to 120°F. Adjust to desired temperature.

Thermostat Settings - For QuickDraw Semi-Instantaneous Heaters

Control uses a thermistor. Setpoint determines stored water temperature. Follow safety instructions.

High Water Temperature Limit Control

Appliance has adjustable and non-adjustable limit controls. Adjustable limit should be 10°F above operating thermostat.

Electronic Low Water Cut-Off (Optional)

Monitors water level. Energizes control when level is above electrode. Three-second delay on decreasing level.

Sequence of Operation

Describes how power supply, thermostat setpoint, and three-way valve interact to call for heat and divert water.

Start-up Procedure

Maintenance

Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve

Operate lever annually for testing. Replace if valve does not function properly.

Thermostats and Temperature Limiting Device

Sensors extend into water. Scale can affect accuracy. Remove and inspect sensors; descale if necessary.

Control Valve Actuator

Actuator is sealed and requires no maintenance. Durability depends on water conditions.

Tank

Scale can form and accumulate. Inspect tank every six months. Flush tank to prevent scale buildup.

Cleaning the Heat Exchanger

Clean periodically if subject to fouling or scaling. Increased pressure drop or reduced performance indicates cleaning is needed.

Checking and Adjusting 3-Way Valve Operation

Instructions for checking operation, reversing operation, and adjusting valve stem.

Recommended Maintenance Schedule

Provides a schedule for annual, semi-annual, monthly, and as-required maintenance tasks.

Troubleshooting Notes

Outlet water temperature not constant

Addresses issues with inconsistent outlet water temperature due to recovery or thermostat problems.

Heater recovery is slow or outlet temperature is below setpoint

Covers slow recovery or low temperature due to valve, drainage, or heat exchanger issues.

No hot water even at low flow

Discusses lack of hot water due to control valve not opening or high-temperature limit issues.

Outlet temperature is too high

Addresses excessively high outlet temperatures caused by thermostat or control valve issues.

Heat exchanger visibly leaking

Explains leaks due to loose plumbing connections or double-wall heat exchanger tube failure.
