Installation in a Cored Fiberglass Hull
Installation ina cored hull is difficult. The objective is to bond the
sensortotheinsidesurfaceofthehullsouterskinwhilepreventing
any moisture from penetrating the core.
CAUTION:
Thereisnowayto determine if the outerskin is solid (no trapped
air bubbles in the fiberglass) at the selected location before
cuttingtheinnerskin.
WARNING:
Always wearsafety gogglesanda dust mask.
1. Usinga 4" (100 mm)hole saw, cutthroughtheinner skinand the
core at the selected location (see Figure 2-18 ).Thecorematerial
can be verysoft. Apply only lightpressure to the hole saw after
cutting throughthe inner skin to avoid accidentally cutting the
outer hull.
2. Removethe plug of core material, so the inner core of the hull is
fully exposed.Sand the inside surfaceof the outer skin using a
miniaturediscsander.Slightlyundercutthesurroundingcoringif
