11. Vehicle conguration options
a) Conguring the wheel alignment
Thewheelalignment(toe-in=gureA,toe-out=gureB)describesthe
alignment of the wheel plane relative to the direction of travel. When the
vehicle moves, the tyres are pushed apart at the front due to rolling resist-
ance. As a result, they are no longer parallel to the direction of travel.
To compensate for this, the tyres of the stationary vehicle can be adjusted
so that they point slightly inwards at the front. This toe-in improves the
lateral cornering of the tyre and therefore results in a more direct response
to steering commands.
To decrease the steering response, use toe-out (the wheels of the station-
ary vehicle point outwards).
A toe angle of more than 3° toe-in (A) or toe-out (B) may cause
steeringdifcultiesandreducesthespeed.It alsoincreases
tyre wear.
Thegureaboveshowsaheavilyover-emphasisedsetting.Itisonlyusedtoshowthedifferencebetween
toe-inandtoe-out.Ifasimilarsettingisusedforthevehicle,itwillbeverydifculttocontrol!
Conguring the front axle toe:
For the front axle, the toe-in and toe-out can be set by
turning the tie rod (A). If the screw is twisted, you must
remove one of the clips from the ball head screw (e.g. with
atorneedle-nosepliers).
Turn the screw e.g. by one turn and then press the clip
onto the ball head screw until it snaps into place.
Important:
Always turn both tie rods on the left and right wheels evenly, otherwise either the trim will need to be ad-
justed on the transmitter or control via the steering servo will need to be corrected (e.g. adjust the servo rod
or position the servo arm differently on the servo).
Setting the rear axle toe:
The rear axle toe is predetermined and cannot be changed.
