The Rinnai Convector 412/314 is an unflued room heater designed for efficient space heating. This appliance is intended for use in residential settings and operates on gas, with an integrated electronic control system.
Function Description:
The Rinnai Convector 412/314 functions as a forced convection unflued room heater. It utilizes a Rinnai Ceramic plate burner to generate heat, which is then distributed throughout the room by a convection fan. The heater features an automatic ignition system, allowing for easy startup. Once ignited, the main burner lights, and the convection fan begins to run, circulating warm air at a low level to ensure even heat distribution.
The heater incorporates a thermostat that automatically modulates the burner and fan to maintain a user-selected room temperature. Users can adjust the desired room temperature using the temperature control knob, with a range from approximately 12°C (LO) to 36°C (HI). The heater runs on high for 1 to 2 minutes after ignition, regardless of the set temperature.
An "Economy Mode" is available to save energy. When activated, 30 minutes after the room temperature reaches the preset level, the Economy Mode reduces the temperature by 1°C, and after another 30 minutes, it further reduces the temperature by 1°C. This mode does not operate if the heater is running only on low or if the unit is under capacity for the room size.

Usage Features:
- Installation Requirements:
- Convector 314: Must not be installed in a room smaller than 30 m³.
- Convector 412: Must not be installed in a room smaller than 42.5 m³.
- Requires correct ventilation; users should consult AG 601 or local authorities for ventilation requirements.
- Not to be installed in bedrooms or bathrooms.
- Must be at least 50 mm clear of side walls and not installed in close proximity to flammable materials (e.g., curtains).
- Not designed to be built-in.
- Ignition: Plug the heater into both gas and power points. Depress the ignition button slowly and firmly. The 'Temperature Level' lamps will illuminate, the spark will ignite the main burner, and the convection fan will start. If ignition fails within 15 seconds, the spark will stop, and the display will flash; turn off and repeat the ignition process.
- Temperature Control: Adjust the temperature control knob to set the desired room temperature. The room temperature is indicated by a flashing L.E.D., and the set temperature by a steady L.E.D. on the control panel.
- Economy Mode: Push the "Economy" switch to activate this energy-saving feature, indicated by a green lamp.
- Turning Off: Depress the ignition button again. The switch will return to the "off" position. Disconnect the gas hose after use. Do not turn off by unplugging from the power-point; the convection fan continues to run until the heater is cool to remove residual heat.
- Safety Precautions:
- Do not install in areas with spray painting, plating, or high fluff/dust (e.g., hairdressers).
- Avoid using aerosols, paint, or polishes while the heater is in use to prevent unpleasant smells.
- Turn off the unit and disconnect the gas hose after use.
- Keep away from flammable materials.
- Do not spray aerosols near the unit while in use.
- Do not sit on the unit.
- Do not allow children to post articles in the louvres or sleep in the warm air discharge.
- Supervise children playing near the unit.
- Do not place wet articles on the unit.
- Do not place articles in front of the louvres.
- Do not move the unit while it is turned on.
- Do not turn off by unplugging from the wall or while the fan is cooling. Not suitable for use with a plug-in timer.
- Do not place liquid containers on top of the unit.
- Ensure the room is ventilated when the heater is in use.
Maintenance Features:
- General Cleaning: Unplug the unit before cleaning. All parts can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use solvents.
- Air Filters: Clean both air filters at least once a week, or when the filter warning lamp glows. Dusty filters reduce airflow and heater effectiveness, potentially causing overheating. Clean filters with a vacuum cleaner.
- Safety Devices (Automatic Shut-off Mechanisms):
- Over Heat Switch: Turns off gas if the heater gets too hot (e.g., blocked filters/louvres). Clean filters, allow to cool, then re-ignite.
- Fuse: Protects electrical circuits. If it blows, the heater won't operate; replace with an authorised person.
- Flame Failure Device: Cuts gas supply in case of gas failure. Turn off, then follow ignition procedure to restore.
- Oxygen Depletion Safety Device (ODS): Cuts gas supply if oxygen level drops below a pre-set limit. Turn off, ventilate the room, then follow ignition procedure. Will not relight until the room is fully ventilated.
- Tilt Switch: Cuts gas supply if the heater is knocked over or jolted during operation. Fan keeps running. Stand heater up, then follow ignition procedure to restore.
