This document is an operation manual for Rinnai Portable Unflued Gas Convection Heaters, specifically covering the Avenger 25, Dynamo 15, and Enduro* 13 models. The manual provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance, ensuring safe and efficient use of the appliance.
Function Description
The Rinnai Portable Unflued Gas Convection Heater is designed to provide efficient and comfortable heating for various room sizes. It operates using gas combustion to generate heat, which is then distributed throughout the room via a multi-speed convection fan. The heater is equipped with electronic controls, allowing users to easily manage its functions. Being an unflued appliance, it does not require a chimney or flue for operation, making it portable and flexible in placement within suitable rooms.
Usage Features
The heater offers a range of features designed for user convenience and energy efficiency:
- Push Button Ignition: A single touch of the STANDBY/ON switch is all that's needed to operate the heater, simplifying the startup process.
- Remote Control: For Avenger and Dynamo models, a remote control is provided, allowing users to switch the heater between STANDBY and ON, and adjust the temperature from a short distance.
- Temperature Adjustment: Users can set their desired room temperature using the Up and Down buttons on the control panel or the remote control. The heater offers thermostatic control between 16°C and 26°C in 1°C steps, as well as 'L' (lowest burner setting) and 'H' (highest burner setting) for continuous combustion without thermostatic control.
- Economy Function: This energy-saving feature controls room temperature to prevent overheating and save energy. Once the set temperature is maintained for 30 minutes, the comfort control system progressively lowers the set temperature by 2°C over 60 minutes.
- Child Lock: When activated, this function locks all controls except the STANDBY/ON switch, preventing accidental operation or tampering with settings, especially by young children. If activated while the appliance is in standby, all functions will be locked.
- Dual Timers (Avenger & Dynamo): These models feature two programmable timers, allowing users to set the appliance to come on for two separate periods each day – one in the morning and one in the evening. This "Set and Forget" feature ensures the heater operates at programmed times until cancelled.
- Pre-Heat Function (Avenger & Dynamo): In conjunction with the dual timers, the Pre-Heat function automatically operates the appliance before the programmed start time to ensure the room reaches the pre-set temperature by the desired time. The micro-computer senses the room temperature one hour before the programmed ON time and adjusts the heating duration accordingly.
- Memory Function: The micro-computer records selected preset temperatures and programmed timer settings, maintaining comfort levels and operating Economy/Auto-Off and Pre-heat modes.
- Override Function: This allows users to manually override current timer operations. For instance, if the heater is between programmed OFF and ON times, activating Override will start the heater and provide full manual control.
- *Delay On Timer (Enduro only): This feature allows programming the heater to start after a delayed period, up to 24 hours. It's particularly useful for automatic heating in the morning, ensuring the room is warm when needed. The heater begins heating once the delay period ends.
- *Off Timer (Enduro only): This feature allows programming the heater to operate for a period of 60 minutes before automatically turning off.
- Safety Devices: The heater is equipped with multiple safety features, including an Over Heat Switch, Electrical Fuse, Flame Failure Sensor, Oxygen Depletion Sensor, Tilt Switch, and Power Failure protection, ensuring safe operation and automatically cutting off gas supply in case of malfunction or unsafe conditions.
Maintenance Features
Proper maintenance is crucial for the heater's efficiency and longevity:
- Air Filters: The heater has two air filters (Filter 1 and Filter 2) that require regular cleaning. Dusty filters reduce heating effectiveness. The manual recommends vacuuming the filters weekly during peak operating periods or when the Filter warning indicator illuminates. Filter 1 can be removed for cleaning, while Filter 2 (the smaller filter) should be cleaned in position with a vacuum cleaner.
- General Cleaning: All parts of the heater can be cleaned using a soft, damp cloth. Users are advised not to use solvents, spray aerosols near the heater, or place articles on/against it.
- Service: Rinnai recommends that the appliance be inspected and serviced every two years by an authorised person. Any damaged power supply cord or other components must be replaced by Rinnai or a suitably qualified person. Service calls for general cleaning, maintenance, and wear and tear are not typically covered under warranty.
- Troubleshooting Checklist and Error Codes: The manual includes a troubleshooting checklist and a list of error codes with probable causes and suggested remedies, enabling users to identify and resolve minor issues or determine when professional service is required.
