1. TechnicalData
Usefortheintendedpurpose
WARNING
Use ROLLER’S Comet properly for hard and soft soldering, heating, annealing,
burning off, melting, thawing, shrinking and similar thermal processes with acetylene.
All other uses are not for the intended purpose and are prohibited.
1.1. Article numbers
ROLLER’S Comet Turbo soldering torch acetylene
for brazing and softsoldering. In cardboard box. 161010
Steel case 160160
1.2. Purpose of use
The ROLLER’S Comet is an acetylene torch which can be used for brazing
and soft soldering, heating, annealing, burning off, melting, thawing,
shrinking and similar thermal processes.
1.3. Permitted gas Acetylene
1.4. Operating gas pressure 1bar(14psi)
1.5. Gas consumption 360 l/h
1.6. Output 20000kJ/h(19000BTU)
1.7. Flame temperature 2500°C(4500°F)
1.8. Noise data
Workplacerelatednoiselevel 84dB(A)
2. Preparations for Use
2.1. Gas connection
Secure the gas cylinder against falling over. Use an adjustable pressure regu-
lator(0to2.5bar)andashbackarrester.Connectanapprovedgashoseline
foracetylenetothegascylinderrespectivelyashbackarresterandthreaded
socket(3)oftheacetylenetorch.
WARNING
BSPP⅜”left-handthreadsineachcase.Setthegaspressureto1bar.Check
the system for leaks.
3. Operation
CAUTION
Wearprotectiveglasses!
3.1. Solderingtorchacetylene
Open the gas cylinder valve; if necessary set the gas pressure as des cribed
under1.Theintegralvalveinthetorchisopenedbyoperatingthetrigger(1).
Simultaneously,thesparkgenerator(piezoigniter)projectsasparkintothe
torch pipe, igniting the gas. On ignition, a loud report is produced; this has no
effect on the functioning of the apparatus. Following a new connection or
reconnection to a gas cylinder, it may be necessary to operate the trigger
repeatedly until the air has been expelled from the hoseline.
When the trigger is released, the valve in the torch closes, cutting off the gas
supply,andtheamegoesout.
Ifthelockingbutton(2)ispressedwhenthetriggerisoperated,thetriggerwill
stay on and the torch will continue to remain lit. When the trigger is operated
again, the locking button will be released. When the trigger itself is then released,
theamewillgoout.
For brazing operations,thetipsofthecircularameshouldtouchthework-
piece. For soft soldering operations,thetipsoftheamescanbeheldata
distance of 10 30 mm from the workpiece, depending on the size of the pipe.
NOTICE
Donotreducethegaspressureandalwayspressthetrigger(1)tillthevery
end,otherwise,duetoareducedame,thetorchpipeandsparkgenerator
may be damaged.
CAUTION
When the torch is no longer required, close the gas cylinder valve and allow
the residual gas in the hoseline and torch to burn off.
3.2. Soldering material
For brazing operations,useROLLER’SLotP6.Copperpipesandttings
mustnotbetreatedwithuxbutintheirbaremetalstate.Forothermaterials,
suchasbrass,itmaybenecessarytouseux.
For soft soldering operations, use ROLLER’S Lot Cu 3. Copper pipes and
ttingsmustbetreatedasbaremetal.Topreparethesolderedarea,apply
ROLLER’S Paste Cu 3 to the pipe section. This paste contains soldering powder
andux.Theadvantageofthepasteliesinthefactthatthetemperaturerequired
forsolderingcanbeidentiedbyachangeofcolourintheheatedpaste,thus
ensuringthatthesolderedjointisproperlylled.Inanycase,however,ROLL-
ER’S Lot Cu 3 must be inserted afterwards. ROLLER’S Lot Cu3 and ROLLER’S
Paste Cu 3 have been specially developed for drinking water pipes and comply
withthespecicationslaiddownbytheGermanFederationofGasandSanitary
Engineers(GW2andGW7)andtherelevantDINstandards.
4. Maintenance
Maintenance and repair operations on the torch must not be carried out other
thanbyqualiedpersonnelorROLLERaftersalesservicecentres.Norepairs
ormodicationstothetorcharepermittedbyunauthorisedpersons.
Before undertaking any maintenance or repair operations, close the valve on
the gas cylinder and allow any residual gas in the hose and torch to burn off.
Toreplacethetorchnozzle,torchpipeorsparkgenerator,unscrewtheve
screws from the housing and remove the upper part of the housing. Now remove
the torch from the lower part of the housing. Pull off the torch pipe and nozzle
retainer. Replace the nozzle retainer with torch nozzle, torch pipe or spark
generator.
5. Action in Case of Trouble
5.1. Fault: Torchwillnotigniteorproducesweakame.
Cause:
Gas cylinder empty.
Gas cylinder valve closed.
Pressure incorrectly set.
Hose defective.
Torchnozzleobstructed(see4.).
5.2. Fault: Torchwillnotigniteautomatically(butcanbelitwithe.g.amatch).
Cause:
Sparkgenerator(piezoigniter)defective.
6. Manufacturer’sWarranty
The warranty period shall be 12 months from delivery of the new product to the
rstuser.Thedateofdeliveryshallbedocumentedbythesubmissionofthe
