Driving and operating 169
Notice
Sensor could detect a non-existing
object (echo disturbance) caused by
external acoustical or mechanic dis‐
turbances.
Side blind zone assistant
The vehicle is optionally equipped
with a Side Blind Zone Assistant
(SBZA) system. Read this entire sec‐
tion before using the system.
The Side Blind Zone Assistant
(SBZA) system detects and reports
objects on either side of the vehicle,
within a specified "blind spot" zone.
The system is designed to alert the
driver, with a visual display placed on
the side view mirror, to the presence
of objects that may not be visible in
the inside rearview mirror and outside
rear view mirrors.
The SBZA radar sensors are located
behind the rear fascia on the left and
right side of the vehicle.
9 Warning
Side Blind Zone Assistant (SBZA)
system is only a lane changing aid
and does not replace driver vision.
SBZA does not detect:
■ Vehicles outside the side blind
zones which may be rapidly ap‐
proaching.
■ Pedestrians, bicyclists, or ani‐
mals.
Failure to use proper care when
changing lanes may result in dam‐
age to the vehicle, injury, or death.
Always check the outside and
rearview mirrors, glance over your
shoulder, and use the turn signal
before changing lanes.
When the system detects a vehicle in
the side blind zone while driving for‐
ward, the SBZA display with an am‐
ber warning symbol will light up in the
accordant outside mirror. This indi‐
cates that it may be unsafe to change
lanes. If the driver then activates the
turn signal, the SBZA display starts
flashing to give you extra warning not
to change lanes.
Before making a lane change, always
check the outside and rearview mir‐
rors, look over your shoulder for vehi‐
cles and hazards, and use the turn
signal.

B = Right Side Mirror Display
When the vehicle is started, both out‐
side mirror displays will briefly come
on to indicate that the system is op‐
erating.
