Overview

The Sealey HSJ07 is a hydraulic scissor jack designed for lifting vehicles, combining the space-saving properties of a conventional scissor jack with the convenience and reduced effort of a trolley jack. It is suitable for hobby users or as an emergency mobile jack.

Function Description:

The primary function of the HSJ07 is to lift vehicles using a hydraulic unit. This unit significantly reduces the time and physical effort required compared to a standard scissor jack. The jack operates by pumping a handle, which extends the hydraulic ram, raising the vehicle. A release valve allows for controlled lowering of the vehicle. A safety excess pressure valve is incorporated to prevent overloading, stopping the jack from lifting if its capacity is exceeded. The jack is supplied with a one-piece pumping handle and comes in a tough carry/storage case, which helps keep the dirty jack separate from other contents in a car boot.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model No.: HSJ07
  • Capacity: 700kg
  • Minimum Height: 139mm
  • Maximum Height: 380mm
  • Closed Length: 382mm

Usage Features:

  • Safety First: Before use, it is crucial to ensure the jack is in sound condition and good working order, with any damaged parts repaired or replaced using genuine parts. The working area must be suitable, well-lit, clean, and free from unrelated materials.
  • Stable Ground: The jack must be used on level, solid ground, preferably concrete, and tarmacadam should be avoided as the jack may sink.
  • Vehicle Preparation: Before lifting, wedges should be placed under the vehicle's wheels, ensuring the jack wheels are free to move. The vehicle's handbrake must be engaged, the engine switched off, and the transmission in gear (or "PARK" for automatics).
  • Clearance: A minimum distance of 0.5m between the vehicle and static objects (doors, walls, etc.) is required to allow for vehicle tilting. No passengers should be in the vehicle, and all non-essential persons must maintain a safe distance.
  • Lifting Points: The jack must be placed under the lifting points recommended by the vehicle manufacturer (refer to the vehicle handbook), ensuring the lifting point is stable and centered on the saddle.
  • Lifting Operation: To lift, close the release valve, attach the handle extension, and pump the handle up and down using maximum strokes until the jack saddle reaches the vehicle's jacking point. Verify the jacking point is centrally located on the saddle before raising the vehicle further.
  • Support: The jack is a lifting device only and must NOT be used for supporting the lifted load. Suitable capacity axle stands must be used under the vehicle before proceeding with any task.
  • Lowering Operation: If axle stands are in use, raise the jack high enough to easily remove them. Then, attach the handle extension to the release valve and turn the handle anticlockwise very slowly to open the valve. The lowering speed is controlled by the amount the handle is turned. Lower carefully to avoid sudden changes in descent rate, which could shock load the hydraulic system. Ensure no persons or obstructions are beneath the vehicle or in its descent path.
  • Initial Setup: Before first use, purge the hydraulic unit to eliminate air by opening the release valve (turning the handle anti-clockwise), pumping for 30-40 seconds, then closing the release valve (turning clockwise). Apply a few drops of hydraulic jack oil to the pump piston and pump the handle several times to distribute the oil, and thoroughly lubricate moving parts.
  • Overload Protection: The jack features a safety excess pressure valve that will open and stop the jack from lifting if it becomes overloaded, preventing damage.
  • Storage: When not in use, the ram should be in its lowest position to minimize corrosion. The handle extension should be removed and stored in the case. The jack should be stored in a safe, dry, childproof area.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Checks: Before each use, inspect the jack for broken, cracked, bent, or loose parts, or any visible damage to the ram, pump, saddle, frame, and all fasteners (nuts, bolts, pins). If any suspect item is found, remove the jack from service and remedy the problem.
  • Lubrication: Keep the jack clean and lubricate all moving parts with oil on a regular basis.
  • Corrosion Prevention: Periodically check the pump piston and ram for signs of corrosion. Clean exposed areas with a clean, oiled cloth.
  • Oil Replacement: The hydraulic oil should be replaced after one year to extend the jack's life. Only hydraulic jack oil should be used.
  • Oil Level Check: To check the oil level, fully lower the jack and remove the filler plug. The correct level is at the bottom of the hole. If low, fill as required. Pump the jack 5 or 6 times to expel air, then pump it to full height before refitting the plug.
  • Professional Maintenance: Only competent personnel should attempt hydraulic maintenance or repair.
  • Prohibited Fluids: Do NOT use brake fluid or any fluid other than hydraulic jack oil, as this can cause serious damage and invalidate the warranty.
  • Overload Valve: Do NOT adjust the safety overload valve.
  • De-commissioning: If the jack becomes completely unserviceable and requires disposal, drain the oil into an approved container and dispose of both the jack and the oil according to local regulations.
  • Genuine Parts: Use genuine parts only for repairs.
  • Service Agents: Hydraulic products are repaired by local service agents. Do not return jacks to Sealey directly; contact Sealey for the address and phone number of your local agent.
