Inspect the fuel and water tanks only when you are sure
that they are empty. Never unscrew the inspection hole
when the tank is not empty.
9. WINTERISATION
It is recommended that all yachts should be lifted from water annually to
allow the hull to dry out. The GRP hull is made of absorbs moisture when
immersed in water, which can result in osmosis.
9.1. BLOCKING THE HULL
A sailing yacht is properly supported when the weight of the hull is resting
on the cradle or a trailer and the keel is either in down position or
released on the keel support. Before hauling the boat out lift the keel. For
hauling use either lifting points with rope eyes or crane straps. Check that
the crane straps are positioned under the rope eyes(see Fig.15).
9.2. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Remove all the batteries from the boat and clean the poles. Store the
batteries in a warm and dry location. The batteries should be completely
charged before storing. The rest of the electrical system requires little
maintenance.
Extremely adverse weather conditions may cause corrosion. In that case
we recommend to clean all corrosive parts and to apply an anti-corrosive
agent.
9.3. ENGINE
Thoroughly clean oil and fuel from the engine compartment. Winterization
should be done in accordance with the engine manufacturer’s
recommendations. Inspect all electrical connections and spray them with
an anti-corrosion spray.
9.4. SAILS
Thoroughly wash all the sails, inspecting them at the same time. Fold
them when they are completely dry and store them in a dry and dark
