4 Preparing the appliance
1. Remove the water tank.
CAUTION!
To avoid damaging the appliance only  ll the water
tank with cold tap water.
TIP
A water  lter improves the water quality of the water
used by removing suspended solids and scale
from the water. SEVERIN recommends the use
of a water  lter for high water quality starting with
12 °dH, ►“Inserting the water  lter (optional)” on
page 10.
2. Please  ll water container to MAX mark.
3. Re-insert the water tank.
4. Remove the bean container lid.
CAUTION!
Do not use unroasted, caramelised or sugar-coated
coffee beans.
5. Fill the coffee beans into the bean container.
6. Re-insert the bean container lid.
7. Connect power cord to power supply.
8. Plug the power plug into the socket.
9. Place a cup under the outlet. Depending on size of cup, you can remove
or slightly shift the drip tray. You can also adjust the height of the outlet
by manually pushing it up or down.

10. To switch the appliance on, press the on/off button
.
11. Wait until the LEDs stop  ashing.
TIP
Before  rst use and after every emptying of the
appliance the system has to be rinsed with water
in two steps. Otherwise the appliance will not work
correctly.
12. Rinse the system by pressing the button
until water  ows from the
outlet.
13. Rinse the outlet, ►“Cleaning the outlet” on page 14.
