Overview

The SHARP FP-J30M is an air purifier designed to improve indoor air quality through a combination of filtration and Plasmacluster ion technology. It is a free-standing unit that draws in room air, processes it through multiple filters, and then discharges cleaner air.

Function Description

The core function of the FP-J30M is to purify the air by trapping dust, reducing odors, and minimizing pollen and mold. It achieves this through a multi-stage filtration system and the unique Plasmacluster technology.

Air Purification Process:

  1. Air Intake: Room air is drawn into the unit through the air intake.
  2. Pre-Filter: The first stage of filtration involves a pre-filter (integrated into the back panel) that traps larger airborne particles such as dust and pet dander. This helps to extend the life of the subsequent filters.
  3. HEPA Filter: Following the pre-filter, air passes through a HEPA filter. This high-efficiency filter is capable of capturing 99.97% of microscopic particles as small as 0.3 microns, including fine dust, pollen, and mold spores.
  4. Deodorizing Filter: After the HEPA filter, a deodorizing filter absorbs various common household odors, contributing to fresher air.
  5. Plasmacluster Ion Technology: In addition to filtration, the unit utilizes Plasmacluster ion technology. This system generates and emits a balanced blend of positive and negative ions into the air. These ions are designed to treat the air in a manner similar to how nature cleans the environment, by breaking down airborne contaminants.
  6. Air Outlet: Finally, the purified and ion-treated air is discharged back into the room through the air outlet.

Plasmacluster Ion Indicator: The unit features a Plasmacluster Ion Indicator Light, which illuminates blue when the Plasmacluster Ion function is active, indicating that ions are being dispersed into the air.

Usage Features

The FP-J30M offers several operational modes and controls to suit different air purification needs and user preferences.

Power ON/OFF: The unit is turned on and off using the POWER ON/OFF Button. When powered on, it typically resumes operation in the mode it was last used, unless the power cord was unplugged.

Fan Speed Modes: The air purifier provides different fan speed settings, controlled via the MODE Button, to adjust the intensity of air purification:

  • MAX: Highest fan speed for rapid air purification.
  • MED: Medium fan speed for general use.
  • SLEEP: A very quiet mode with low fan speed, ideal for nighttime use. In this mode, the Plasmacluster Ion Indicator Light automatically turns off, though Plasmacluster ions continue to be dispersed unless the Plasmacluster Ion function is explicitly turned off.

HAZE Mode: The HAZE Button activates a specific operational sequence designed for quick air cleaning. In HAZE mode, the unit operates at a HIGH fan speed for 60 minutes, then alternates between Low and High fan speeds for 20 minutes each. This mode is useful for quickly clearing the air, for example, after cooking or when there's a noticeable increase in airborne particles. It's important to note that if Plasmacluster Ion is OFF, ions will not be released in HAZE mode. While operating in HAZE mode, it is possible to switch to another mode, but HAZE mode will not function after switching.

OFF TIMER: The OFF TIMER function allows users to set a specific duration after which the unit will automatically stop operation. Available settings include 4 hours and 8 hours. This feature is convenient for ensuring the unit runs for a set period without needing manual intervention.

Light Control: The unit includes a Light Control feature, which allows the user to turn off the Plasmacluster Ion Indicator Light even when the Plasmacluster Ion function is active. This is particularly useful in bedrooms or other environments where ambient light might be undesirable. To toggle the light, the HAZE button is pressed and held for 3 seconds.

Plasmacluster Ion ON/OFF: The Plasmacluster Ion function can be independently turned ON or OFF. When ON, the blue Plasmacluster Ion Indicator Light illuminates. If the indicator light is off, it can be turned on by pressing and holding the MODE button for 3 seconds. Conversely, if the Plasmacluster Ion function is OFF, the indicator light will also be off.

Auto Restart: The unit features an auto-restart function. If power is interrupted (e.g., due to a power outage or accidental unplugging) during operation, the unit will automatically resume its previous operation mode and settings once power is restored.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of the SHARP FP-J30M air purifier. The unit is designed with user-friendly maintenance in mind, primarily focusing on filter care and general cleaning.

Filter Replacement Indicator: The unit is equipped with a "Replace Filter" indicator light (orange). This light turns on after approximately 17,500 hours of operation in Sleep mode (equivalent to 2 years of continuous operation), signaling that the HEPA and Deodorizing filters need to be replaced. After replacing the filters, the indicator light can be reset by pressing and holding the OFF TIMER button for 3 seconds while the unit is plugged in and powered on.

Filter Installation and Removal: Filters are installed within the main unit. To access them, the back panel (which includes the pre-filter) must first be removed by pulling it while holding down the main unit. The HEPA and Deodorizing filters are then accessible for removal and replacement. It is crucial to remove the filters from their plastic packaging before installation and to ensure they are installed correctly, not backwards, to ensure proper operation. The unit should never be operated without the filters installed.

Back Panel (Pre-filter) Cleaning: The back panel, which acts as a pre-filter, collects larger dust particles. It should be cleaned periodically.

  • Dust Removal: Dust can be gently removed from the back panel using a vacuum cleaner attachment or a similar tool.
  • Stubborn Dirt: For stubborn dirt, the back panel can be soaked in water with a small amount of kitchen detergent for about 10 minutes, then rinsed with clean water, and thoroughly dried in a well-ventilated area. It is important not to apply excessive pressure when scrubbing the back panel.

HEPA Filter and Deodorizing Filter Care:

  • Cleaning: These filters should be gently cleaned to remove dust using a vacuum cleaner attachment or similar tool.
  • Important Restrictions: The HEPA and Deodorizing filters must not be washed in water or dried in the sun. Washing or wetting these filters will not improve performance and can cause electric shock or malfunction. They are fragile, so care must be taken not to apply too much force during cleaning.
  • HEPA Filter Specifics: Maintenance (cleaning) should only be applied to the side with the tag. Cleaning the opposite side can damage the filter.
  • Deodorizing Filter Specifics: Maintenance (cleaning) can be applied to both sides of the deodorizing filter.
  • Replacement: These filters are designed for replacement, not reuse after washing. Filter life varies depending on the usage environment, but the indicator light provides a general guideline. If the product is used in conditions significantly more severe than normal household use, filters may need to be replaced more frequently.

Unit Exterior Cleaning: The exterior of the unit should be wiped with a dry, soft cloth. For stubborn stains or dirt, a soft cloth dampened with warm water can be used.

  • Caution: Volatile fluids such as benzene, paint thinner, or polishing powder should not be used, as they can damage the surface. Similarly, detergents should be avoided as their ingredients may harm the unit.

Power Cord Disconnection: Before performing any maintenance or cleaning, it is essential to disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet to prevent electrical shock.

Professional Servicing: If any problems, adjustments, or repairs are needed beyond routine user maintenance, only a Sharp Authorized Service Center should service the air purifier.

Filter Disposal: Replaced filters should be disposed of according to local disposal laws and regulations.
