2.4 Encoder replacement variants
Note
Always replace the encoder as a complete component.
Replacement variants and their preconditions
Replacing the encoder at the original machine
(Variant 1)
Replacing an external encoder at another con‐
verter
(Variant 2)
The electronic rating plate is backed up on the stor‐
age medium of the converter which was used to
commission the motor.
The electronic rating plate is re-established at the
converter to which the motor is connected.
• No other motor (e.g. a replacement motor) may
have been meanwhile connected to the con‐
verter axis involved.
• You have access to SINAMICS parameters via a
commissioning tool or the web server of the
plant or system
• You have access to SINAMICS parameters via a
commissioning tool or the web server of a SI‐
NAMICS S120/S220 converter
• You can commission the motor from a control
panel (in the commissioning tool or as hard‐
ware switch).
• You can access the Internet and download a
rating plate template for the motor by specify‐
ing the motor serial number
If one of these two preconditions does not apply,
then switch to variant 2 "Replacing the encoder at
another converter"
Overview of the work󹪞ow when replacing the encoder at the original machine
The procedure for replacing the encoder locally at the machine, from which the motor was
removed, is shown in the following diagram.
Note
In the meantime, no replacement motor may have been operated on this converter. If this was
or is the case, switch to variant 2 "Replacing an external encoder at a di󹪜erent machine".
