Chapter 7 – Prestart Inspection
24 SL30SL – 8210037
Note
Refer to Chapter 2 for the proper type and grade of
hydraulic uid to use. The need to regularly add uid
indicates a leak that should be corrected.
Fluid Filter
Checking the condition of the hydraulic uid lter is part
of the machine maintenance schedule and should not be
performed by the operator.
Hoses, Tubes, and Fittings
To inspect the hoses, tubes and ttings:
1. Inspect all hydraulic hoses, tubes, and ttings for
wear, leakage, or damage (refer to Figure 7.7).
Figure 7.7 – Hoses, Tubes, and Fittings
2. Make sure the hoses are properly routed to avoid
sharp edges, kinking, and scufng.
3. Inspect the tubes for dents or other damage that may
restrict uid ow.
4. Make sure all hoses and tubes are held rmly in their
support brackets.
5. Check under the chassis for uid that has leaked. Hy-
draulic uid leaks are easily visible on the ground.
Tires and Wheels
Visually inspect the tires and wheels (refer to Figure 7.8)
to make sure they are suitable for service.
Figure 7.8 – Tires and Wheels
The aerial platform has air lled tires. Air lled tires have
a tire pressure decal near the valve stem. The valve stem
also has a valve core like an automobile tire.
Danger
The aerial platform can tip over if it becomes unsta-
ble. Death or serious injury will result from a tipover
accident. Do not operate the aerial platform if a tire
is leaking air or is in poor condition where a blow
out could occur.
To inspect air lled tires and wheels:
1. Check the wheel lug nuts to see that none are miss-
ing, damaged, or loose.
2. Carefully inspect the tires for wear, cuts, punctures,
or embedded objects.
3. Test the air pressure with a pressure gauge to make
sure the tires are properly inated. Check the tires
several times throughout the day to see that they are
properly inated.
Lower Control Station
With no personnel or materials in the platform, test the
operation of each control from the lower controls (refer
to Figure 7.9).
