Replacing
the
Chain
Sprocket
Removing
the
side
plate
Spur
sprocket
First
disengage
the
chain
brake
by
pulling
the
hand
guard
back
against
the
handlebar.
Now
remove
the
chain
sprocket
cover,
Oilomatic
chain
and
guide
bar.
Release
and
unscrew
the
six
pan
head
screws
which
hold
the
side
plate
(1)
and
cover
(2).
Insert
a
pointed
knife
or
similar
tool
behind
the
E-clip
(3)
to
ease
it
clear
of
the
warts
on
the
thrust
washer
(4)
and
then
use
a
small
screwdriver
to
prise
the
E-clip
off
the
crank-
shaft.
Pull
off
the
thrust
washer
and
use
circlip
pliers

(special
accessory
available
from
your
STIHL
dealer)
to
take
the
circlip
(5)
off
the
chain
sprocket.
The
washer
(6)
can
now
be
removed
from
the
chain
sprok-
ket.
Removal
of
this
washer
(6)
is
made
easier
if
you
hold
the
chain
sprocket
(7)
steady
and
prise
the
cover
(2)
slightly
away
from
the
crankcase.
Then
take
off
the
cover
as
well.
Only
original
STIHL
chain
sprockets
may
be
installed.
