Clamped Area of Handlebar
N Check the freedom of movement of 
the handlebar (1) in the clamp 
moldings (2) at regular intervals.
Handlebar is difficult to move 
N Loosen the wing screw (3) just 
enough for the handlebar to be 
moved. 
N Push the handlebar (1) sideways 
out of the clamp.
N Soak a cloth in a clean, non-
flammable cleaning solution – do 
not use cleaning agent containing 
oil or grease. 
N Thoroughly clean the clamp area of 
the handlebar with the cloth and 
cleaning solution.
N Line up the handlebar and secure it 
in position with the wing screw.
Handlebar cannot be clamped firmly in 
position
N Release handlebar in clamp as 
described under "Handlebar is 
difficult to move".
N Degrease clamp area on handlebar 
and in clamp moldings. 
N Line up the handlebar and secure it 
in position with the wing screw.
Adjusting the Throttle Cable
The throttle cable can be adjusted only 
when the machine is properly 
assembled. The control handle must be 
in the normal operating position.
If the following adjustments do not 
produce the required result, have your 
servicing dealer repair the machine.  
STIHL recommends a STIHL servicing 
dealer.
Check adjustment of throttle cable.
Error: Engine speed increases when 
only the throttle trigger is depressed.
N Starting the Engine
N Depress the throttle trigger (2) – do 
not press down the throttle trigger 
lockout (1).
If the engine speed increases or if the 
cutting attachment rotates, the throttle 
cable has to be adjusted.
N Stopping the Engine

N Depress the throttle trigger lockout 
(1) and the throttle trigger (2) as far 
as stop and hold them in that 
position.
Apply only sufficient pressure to hold the 
levers against their stops.
N Rotate screw in throttle trigger 1/2 
turn counterclockwise.
N Release the throttle trigger and 
throttle trigger lockout.
