6 General Power Tool Safety Warnings and Instructions
■ Store Trimmer, Lawn Edger or Cultivator Indoors – When 
not in use, trimmer, lawn edger and cultivator should be 
stored indoors in a dry, locked place out of reach of 
children with the battery removed.
■ Maintain Trimmer, Lawn Edger or Cultivator With Care – 
Keep cutting attachment clean for best performance and 
to reduce the risk of injury. Follow instructions for 
lubricating and changing accessories. Keep handles dry, 
clean, and free from oil and grease.
■ Check Damaged Parts – Before further use of the trimmer, 
lawn edger and cultivator, a guard or other part that is 
damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it 
will operate properly and perform its intended function. 
Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving 
parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any other 
condition that may affect its operation. A guard or other 
part that is damaged should be properly repaired or 
replaced by an authorized service center unless indicated 
elsewhere in this manual.
■ Inspect the connecting cord periodically and, if damaged, 
have it repaired by an authorized service facility.
■ FS-KM Trimmer / Brushcutter and FCS-KM Lawn Edger: 
Keep guards in place and in working order.
■ FS-KM Trimmer / Brushcutter and FCS-KM Lawn Edger: 
Keep metal cutting blades sharp.
■ FS-KM Trimmer / Brushcutter and FCS-KM Lawn Edger: 
Keep hands and feet away from cutting area.
■ BF-KM Cultivator with Pick Tines: Keep hands away from 
blades.

6.3 General Safety Warnings and Instructions for 
the Following STIHL KombiTools: HL-KM 
Extended Reach Hedge Trimmer, FH-KM 
Power Scythe and HT-KM Pole Pruner 
6.3.1 Introduction
This chapter contains the prescribed general safety 
warnings and instructions for handheld, motor-operated 
electric power tools and motor-operated, electric hedge 
trimmers contained in UL 60745-1 and UL 60745-2-15. 
Additional important warnings and instructions are provided 
in subsequent chapters of this manual.

WARNING
■ Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to 
follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric 
shock, fire and/or serious injury.
■ Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-
operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) 
power tool.
6.3.2 Work Area Safety
a)Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas 
invite accidents.
b)Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, 
such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or 
dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust 
or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a 
power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
