MAINTENANCE

Figure 6---8 Drive Coupling Shaft Alignment
tempt to remove the donut portion of the drop out of
assembly.
WARNING
!
Disconnect all power at source, before attempting
maintenance or adjustments.
For installation and alignment of the drive coupling,
follow the steps explained below .
STEP 1 MOUNT HUBS --- Mount the motor hub
and t he compressor hub on their respective shafts,
after carefully inspecting the hub bores and the
shafts for dirt and burrs. It is also necessary to
check for a proper key fit. Place the keys in position
being sure that the end of the key is flush w ith the
end of the shaft. Position the hubs to establish the
correct ga p s pecified in Ta ble 1. Secure ea ch hub
with a setscrew.
STEP 2 PARALLEL OFFSET ALIGNMENT ---
Clean any fluid, grease, dirt or paint from the hub
f a c e s i n p r e p a r a t i on f o r p a r a lle l a lig n m e n t . Pla c e a
dial indicator on the compressor hub as shown in
Figure 6 --- 8, and rot ate t he motor hub to check
alignment. The vertical offset is adj usted by the ad-
dition or removal of motor mounting shims. To cor-
rect the horizontal offset, loosen the motor mount-
ing bolts and slide the motor sideways until parallel
offset alignment specification are reached.
STEP 3 ANGULAR ALIGNMENT --- R e p o s i t i o n t h e
dial indicator a s s how n in Figure 6 --- 8 t o check an -
gular alignment. Once again, rotate the motor hub
to check misalignment, loosen the motor mounting
bolts and adj ust the position until the angular align-
ment is within tolerance.
WARNING
!
DO NOT upset the offset alignment or hub gap
when adjusting motor position.
W h e n w it h in t h e lim it s s p e c if ie d in Ta b le 1 , t ig h t e n
the motor mounting bolts and recheck the offset
and angular alignment. If the vertical angular align -
ment is not within .010 tolerance, shim the front or
rear of the motor separately to correct. Recheck the
vertical offset.
STEP 4 INSTALL THE FLEXIBLE ELEMENT --- I n -
sert the drop out assembly between the hubs car -
ing not to damage the edges of the male pilots.
Draw one of the pilots into the female pilots of the
mating hub and install the hex head capscrews
snug enough to hold the mating flanges flush.
Tighten t he hex head capscrew so to guide the pilot
into the mating hub. Repeat t his procedure on the
mating hub.
