Do you have a question about the TECGAUSS BT030 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The TECGAUSS BT030 is a tester designed for diagnosing automotive alternators with a supply voltage of 12V. It can be used for direct testing on the vehicle or on a test bench to measure the alternator's voltage.

Technical Specifications:

  • Dimensions (LWH): 120x65x18 mm
  • Weight: 0.15 kg
  • Supply voltage: 10 to 18 V
  • TFT-LCD touch screen color: 2.8" screen size
  • Operating temperature: 0 to +40 °C
  • Storage temperature: 0 to +40 °C
  • Ingress protection rating: IP20

Alternator Testing Specifications:

The BT030 is capable of testing various types of alternators, including those with communication protocols such as COM (LIN, BSS), SIG, RLO, RVC, KOR, P/D, and JAP.

  • Tested parameters:
    • Voltage stabilization for COM voltage regulators.
    • Protocol type.
    • Excitation rate.
    • Errors.
  • Supply voltage of tested alternators: 12 V
  • Polarity reversal protection: Yes
  • Short-circuit sound alert: No
  • Battery pack: No

Usage Features:

The BT030 tester features a compact design with a touch screen. It includes a diagnostic connector for the upper part of the tester and a MicroSD card slot for software updates.

Equipment Set:

The BT030 tester package includes:

  • Tester for Automotive Alternators GAUSS BT030 - 1 piece
  • Set of diagnostic cables - 1 piece
  • Four-wire cable - 1 piece
  • Cable for an additional connector - 1 piece
  • User manual - 1 piece

Tester Menu and Modes:

The main menu is divided into three sections: "SELECT ALTERNATOR TYPE," "HELP," and "TEST."

  • SELECT ALTERNATOR TYPE: Allows selection of the alternator type to be tested. The selected type is highlighted.
  • HELP: Provides information on the selected alternator type, including connection diagrams and technical specifications.
  • TEST: Initiates the test for the selected alternator.

The BT030 supports various alternator testing modes, including:

  • "COM" (LIN, BSS): Communication protocol for voltage regulators. Displays "LIN1.3" (connected as LIN1), "LIN2.0" (connected as LIN2).
  • "ID": Voltage regulator identification number.
  • "COM SPEED": Communication speed of the voltage regulator and vehicle ECU.
  • "TYPE": Voltage regulator connection type.

Safety Measures:

  • Always ensure proper training and use of appropriate safety equipment.
  • Before testing, check that the clamps are not broken or damaged.
  • Avoid electric shock or injury by not applying voltage above 20V to the device outputs or between the earth and any of the outputs.
  • When measuring, connect all leads correctly, especially "B+" ones.
  • Do not apply excessive force to the touch screen. Protect the screen from sharp and hard objects.

Testing of an Alternator Assembly in the Car:

  1. Connect the tester to the automotive alternator.
  2. The device is powered by the alternator battery.
  3. Activate the testing mode by selecting the appropriate terminal of the voltage regulator and pressing "TEST."
  4. When testing a COM-type alternator, wait for the device to identify its ID number and type.
  5. Observe the alternator's behavior during the test. If the alternator is working correctly, the voltage should remain stable between 13.2V and 14.8V.

Maintenance Features:

  • Firmware Update: Update BT030 software by downloading the latest version from www.gauss.com.br. Copy the file to the root folder of a MicroSD card (32GB formatted in FAT32). Insert the MicroSD card into the tester and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Cleaning and Care: Use soft cloths or tissues moistened with neutral detergent. The display should be cleaned with a special fiber cloth and a screen cleaning spray. Avoid abrasive or solvent cleaners.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a table of common problems, potential causes, and troubleshooting tips.
  • Equipment Disposal: The BT030 is subject to the European WEEE 2002/96/EC directive. Dispose of electronic equipment and accumulators separately from household waste.
  • Warranty: The tester has a one-year total warranty covering spare parts and labor for eventual damage under normal usage conditions. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, liquid spills, or fire.
