Overview

This manual describes the TechMaster ES Series of Portable Advanced Electronic Balances, which include models ES-10, ES-20, ES-40, ES-50, ES-200(A), ES-300(A), ES-600(A), ES-1100, ES-2100(A), ES-3000A, and ES-5000A. These balances are precision weighing instruments designed for years of service with minimal maintenance.

Function Description:

The TechMaster ES Series balances are designed for accurate weighing and offer various operational modes and settings to suit specific requirements. They feature a five-digit LCD display and operate through a series of menus for calibration and parameter selection. The primary function is weighing, but the balances also support parts counting and taring. Calibration ensures precise measurements, and the setup menu allows for customization based on environmental conditions and specific weighing tasks. A built-in lock switch prevents unauthorized changes to calibration settings.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: ES-10, ES-20, ES-40, ES-50, ES-200(A), ES-300(A), ES-600(A), ES-1100, ES-2100(A), ES-3000A, ES-5000A.
  • Display: Five-digit LCD, 0.5 inches in height.
  • Construction: Impact-resistant housing with a one-piece solid-state precision electronics PC board.
  • Power Options: Operates on 4AA alkaline batteries (not included) or via an AC adapter (supplied) for 220V or 110V AC outlets.
  • Weighing Units/Modes: Initially factory-set to grams (g), but can be configured to measure in ounces (oz), troy ounces (ozt), pennyweight (dwt), pounds (lb), taels (t), carat (ct), and parts counting (pc).
  • Calibration Masses: Specific calibration masses are required for each model, ranging from 10g for ES-10 to 2000g or 5000g for ES-5000A.
  • Stability Range: Selectable ranges (.5d, 1d, 2d, 5d) to define how much a displayed weight can change while the stability indicator remains ON.
  • Auto-Zero: Threshold levels (OFF, 5d, 1d, 3d) to minimize effects of temperature changes and zero reading shifts.
  • Parts Counting Error Level: Selectable levels (OFF, 1, 2.5, 5) based on resolution and sample weight.
  • Auto-Off: Configurable idle time (OFF, 60, 120, 180 seconds) before the balance automatically turns off, especially useful for battery operation.

Usage Features:

  • Turning On/Off: Press the ON/TARE button to turn on. Hold the OFF/MODE button until "OFF" is displayed to turn off.
  • Warm-up Time: Allow at least 5 minutes for the balance to temperature stabilize before use. More time may be needed if moved to a different temperature environment.
  • Weighing: Place the object on the platform after setting the display to zero. Wait for the unit indicator to appear for a stable reading.
  • Units Exchange: Press the OFF/MODE button during weighing to cycle through available units.
  • Taring: Use the ON/TARE button to zero the display with an empty container on the platform, then add the sample to read its net weight. The tared weight remains in memory until ON/TARE is pressed again or the balance is turned off.
  • Parts Counting: Enable in the Setup menu. The balance counts parts based on a reference sample (5, 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 parts). Uniform sample weight is recommended for optimum results.
  • Calibration Menu: Allows calibration using standard weights. Access can be locked out via a switch on the right side of the balance to prevent unauthorized changes.
  • Setup Menu: Used to customize balance operation, including unit selection, stability range, auto-zero settings, parts counting error level, and auto-off function. Changes are stored only if "END" is selected to exit the menu.
  • Reset to Factory Settings: Option within the Setup menu to restore all parameters to their original factory defaults.
  • Taels Selection: If taels are enabled, users can choose between Hong Kong, Singapore, or Taiwan tael standards.
  • Calibration Lock-Out Protection: A physical switch on the right side of the balance can be set to "LOCKED" or "UNLOCKED" to enable or disable access to the calibration menu and protect settings from being changed or lost.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The housing and platform should be kept clean and free from foreign material. A cloth dampened with a mild detergent can be used if necessary.
  • Storage: Unplug the AC adapter when not in use. For long-term storage, remove the batteries. Calibration masses should be kept in a safe, dry place.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues like "No Display," "LO BAT Indicator," "Incorrect Weight Reading," and "Calibration Procedure does not work," along with probable causes and remedies.
  • Error Codes: A list of error codes (e.g., "Err 0" for platform too light) is provided with descriptions and suggested remedies. For persistent errors like "Err 0" indicating sensor or circuit board damage, the balance must be sent to the manufacturer for service.
  • Environmental Considerations: Avoid using the balance near open windows/doors (drafts, rapid temperature changes), vibrating/rotating/reciprocating equipment, air conditioning/heat vents, non-level work surfaces, or corrosive vapors (e.g., nitric acid) to ensure optimal performance.
