Overview

The Technaxx Wildcam 1080p TX-256 is a versatile, battery-operated security camera designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Its primary function is to record digital photos and videos, making it ideal for observing wildlife, monitoring houses, or for general property surveillance. The device is designed for private individuals and emphasizes ease of use with its straightforward operation and setup.

Function Description

The Wildcam TX-256 captures images and videos automatically when motion is detected, thanks to its Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor. It supports various recording modes, including photo, video, and a combination of both. In "Photo & Video" mode, the camera first takes a photo and then initiates video recording after a 10-second delay. The camera features 38 IR LEDs (940nm no-glow) for optimal night vision, allowing it to capture clear images and videos even in low-light conditions. During night mode, images and videos are captured in black and white. The device automatically switches between day and night modes based on ambient light levels.

Users can set the camera to operate within specific time slots using the "Timer" function, ensuring recordings are only taken during desired periods. The "Time Lapse" function allows for periodic photo capture over extended durations, useful for observing slow-changing events like plant growth. The camera records audio alongside video, which can be enabled or disabled.

For storage, the Wildcam TX-256 relies on a MicroSD card (up to 32GB, Class 10, FAT32 format, not included), as it has no built-in memory. When the MicroSD card is full, the camera automatically stops recording. Files are stored in .jpg format for images and .AVI format for videos, making them compatible with most multimedia players.

Usage Features

The camera is designed for user-friendly operation. To begin, 8x AA batteries (included) must be installed, ensuring correct polarity. An external 6V power supply can also be used, but it does not charge the installed rechargeable batteries; for safety, it's recommended to remove batteries when using external power.

The device features a 2-inch IPS color display for easy navigation and settings adjustment. It has a simple three-position mode switch: "Off," "Test," and "On."

  • Off Mode: Powers down the camera.
  • Test Mode: Allows users to set parameters, manually capture images/videos, and view recordings. In this mode, the M and E buttons are used to navigate menus, access settings, select values, and confirm choices. The device's language can be set in Test mode.
  • On Mode (Recording Mode): After switching to "On," the display turns off after 5 seconds, and the camera becomes armed, ready to record automatically upon motion detection. A red LED on the front panel flashes six times before the camera enters standby.

The PIR motion detection sensitivity can be adjusted (Low, Medium, High) to suit different environments (indoors, outdoors, cold, mild temperatures). This helps optimize detection and prevent false triggers. The camera's triggering time is a quick 0.3 seconds.

For security, a password can be set to prevent unauthorized access to the camera's settings. A unique serial ID (camera name) can also be assigned. The "Auto power off" feature conserves battery life by turning off the camera in Test mode after a set period of inactivity. The "Economy Mode" can be enabled to further optimize power consumption.

Files can be downloaded to a computer either by connecting the camera via a USB cable or by removing the MicroSD card and inserting it into a card reader. Recordings are organized in the \DCIM\100MEDIA folder on the MicroSD card. Files can be deleted directly from the camera in viewing mode or from a PC.

Maintenance Features

The Wildcam TX-256 is designed to be waterproof and dustproof with an IP66 rating, making it suitable for outdoor use, though it should not be submerged in water.

For cleaning, the device should only be wiped with a dry or slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Abrasive cleaners or liquid cleaning sprays should not be used. As a high-precision optical instrument, it's important to avoid exposing the device to ultra-high or ultra-low temperatures and strong shocks.

Regular maintenance includes:

  • Battery Management: Keep an eye on the low battery symbol. Batteries drain faster in night mode, so a fresh set of 8x AA batteries is recommended for extended night-time recording.
  • SD Card Management: Always format the MicroSD card (FAT32) before initial use and regularly clear it before each new venture to ensure optimal performance and prevent recording from stopping due to a full card. If the card does not format correctly in the camera, it should be formatted on a PC. If performance degrades, reformatting is recommended, and if issues persist, the card may need replacement.
  • Password Security: If a password is set, it's crucial to write it down to avoid forgetting it. In case of a forgotten password, a default "pass" can be used to access the settings and retrieve the original password.
  • Environmental Considerations: When positioning the camera, avoid pointing it at heat sources (like the sun) or areas with swaying tree branches to prevent false triggers.

The device is designed for durability and ease of care, ensuring reliable performance for its intended surveillance and observation purposes.
