Overview

The provided document is an installation guide for Zones Freestanding Lounge & Semi-Supported Screens, manufactured by Teknion. This guide, identified as ZNS_101b, Rev. No: 4, dated May 2019, details the assembly and connection procedures for various screen configurations.

Function Description:

The Zones Freestanding Lounge & Semi-Supported Screens are modular partition systems designed to create defined spaces within open-plan environments. They offer both freestanding and semi-supported configurations, providing flexibility in layout and application. These screens are primarily used in lounge areas, offices, or other commercial settings to enhance privacy, reduce noise, and delineate functional zones. The system includes various screen types—curved, flat, and mid-screens—which can be combined to form different shapes and sizes, catering to diverse spatial requirements. The semi-supported screens (ZNFWS) suggest an option for integration with existing structures or furniture, offering additional stability or design continuity.

Important Technical Specifications and Components:

The system comprises several key components, each with specific part numbers and quantities that vary based on the desired configuration:

  • Screen Assemblies:

    • Curved End Screen Assemblies:
      • A1 - Curved End Screen Assembly (N02-3476): Used for creating curved ends in configurations.
      • A2 - Reversed Curved End Screen Assembly (N02-3836): A mirrored version of A1.
      • B1 - Reverse Curved End Screen Assembly (N02-3770): Another type of curved end.
      • B2 - Reversed Curved End Screen Assembly (N02-3732): Mirrored version of B1.
      • C1 - Curved End Screen Assembly (N02-3771): Yet another curved end option.
      • C2 - Reversed Curved End Screen Assembly (N02-3860): Mirrored version of C1.
    • Flat End Screen Assemblies:
      • D1 - Flat End Screen Assembly Female (N02-3661): Designed for flat ends, potentially with a female connection point.
      • D2 - Flat End Screen Assembly Male (N02-3662): Designed for flat ends, potentially with a male connection point.
      • G - Flat Screen Assembly (N02-3769): A general flat screen component.
    • Curved Mid Screen Assemblies:
      • E1 - Curved Mid Screen Assembly (N02-3772): Used for creating curved sections within a longer screen run.
      • E2 - Reversed Curved Mid Screen Assembly (N02-3861): Mirrored version of E1.
      • F1 - Curved Mid Screen Assembly (N02-3773): Another type of curved mid-screen.
      • F2 - Reversed Curved Mid Screen Assembly (N02-3837): Mirrored version of F1.
  • Support and Connection Hardware:

    • J - Leg Assembly Telescoping - Screen (N02-3479): These are the primary support legs for freestanding configurations, allowing for height adjustment (telescoping).
    • H - Screen Anchor Plate Assembly (N09-7024): This assembly provides a stable base for the screens, particularly for freestanding units. It consists of:
      • H1 - Screen Anchor Plate Assembly (N09-6816): The main plate that secures the screen to the floor or a base.
      • H2 - Bushing and Plate Assembly (N09-6815): A component that interfaces with the screen and the anchor plate.
      • H3 - Lock Ring (A18-0345): Used to secure and level the screen assembly.
    • K - Screen Connector Kit (N15-0966): Used for connecting multiple screen panels. Each kit contains:
      • K1 - Minifix Cam (E03-0832): Cam fasteners for securing connections.
      • K2 - Connecting Bolt (E03-0831): Bolts that work with the Minifix Cams to join screen sections.
    • Screws:
      • I - Screw #8 x 5/8 LG Flat Quadrex HD Wood Screw (E04-0103): Used for various fastening points, including securing the leg assembly and anchor plate.
      • H4 - Screw #8 x 5/8 LG Flat Quadrex HD Wood Screw (E04-0103): Specifically mentioned for securing the bushing and plate assembly to the screen.

Usage Features:

  • Modular Design: The system's modularity allows for a wide range of configurations, including "ZNFGA" (9 sq. ft. and 16 sq. ft.), "ZNFGB" (9 sq. ft. and greater than 9 sq. ft.), "ZNFGC" (all sizes), and "ZNFWS" (less than 64 sq. ft.). The "Orientation Sheet" provides visual examples of these configurations, indicating left or 'S' shapes.
  • Freestanding and Semi-Supported Options: Users can choose between fully freestanding units, which offer maximum flexibility in placement, or semi-supported units, which might integrate with other furniture or architectural elements for enhanced stability or a more integrated look.
  • Adjustable Leveling: The inclusion of a Lock Ring (H3) and the instruction to "Hand tighten the Lock Ring to the bottom of the Bushing and Plate to level Screen Assembly" indicates that the screens can be leveled on uneven surfaces, ensuring stability and a professional appearance.
  • Easy Connection System: The Minifix Cam (K1) and Connecting Bolt (K2) system simplifies the process of joining multiple screen panels, allowing for quick and secure assembly.

Maintenance Features (Implicit from Installation):

  • Durable Construction: While not explicitly stated, the use of robust hardware like wood screws, connecting bolts, and anchor plates suggests a design intended for long-term use in commercial environments.
  • Replaceable Components: The modular nature implies that individual screen panels or hardware components could be replaced if damaged, extending the lifespan of the overall system.
  • Stable Base: The anchor plate assembly is designed to provide a secure and stable base, which contributes to the longevity and safety of the screens by preventing accidental tipping or movement.
  • Clean Assembly: Instructions emphasize placing screens on "a clean and flat surface" during assembly, which helps prevent damage to the screen material and ensures proper alignment of components.
  • Tightening Instructions: The explicit instruction to "tighten all 4 Minifix Cam" and to "Lock Minifix Cam with Right Angle Screwdriver" highlights the importance of proper fastening for stability and durability, which is a key aspect of maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting Aid: The suggestion to use a mirror to locate bottom Minifix Cams is a practical tip for installers, which also aids in future maintenance or adjustments.

The installation process involves several steps:

  1. Install Leg Assembly: Flipping the flat screen assembly upside down, placing the leg assembly, and securing it with wood screws.
  2. Install Anchor Plate Assembly: Unscrewing the bushing and plate assembly from the screen anchor plate assembly, flipping the flat screen assembly upside down, placing the bushing and plate assembly, and securing it with wood screws. This step is only applicable when an anchor plate is specified.
  3. Secure Anchor Plate: Flipping the flat screen assembly right side up, lowering it onto the screen anchor plate assembly, and twisting the anchor plate assembly clockwise to secure it.
  4. Level Screen Assembly: Hand tightening the lock ring to the bottom of the bushing and plate to level the screen assembly.
  5. Insert Minifix Cam: Inserting connecting bolts into the top and bottom trim of the screen panels.
  6. Lock Minifix Cam: Locking the Minifix Cams with a right-angle screwdriver, ensuring all 8 cams per connection are tightened. A mirror can be used to aid in locating the bottom cams.

Overall, the Zones Freestanding Lounge & Semi-Supported Screens system is designed for versatile, stable, and relatively straightforward installation, offering a flexible solution for space division in various settings.
