(c)Theslingandhoistshouldhaveaweightlimitratingatleasttwicetheweightofthepropeller
thatistoberemoved.
(d)Takeupslackonthepropellerslingandhoist,orsupportthepropellerbyhand,andremove
thepropellermountingnuts.
CAUTION:Propellermustberemovedfromtheengineinastraightmotion.
Anyrockingofthepropellerontheenginecouldcausedamage
tothepropellermountingange.
(e)Carefullyslidethepropellerforwardandremovefromtheengine.
(f)Placethepropelleronasuitablesupportorpropellerstand.

Donotletthepropellerbesupportedbythetipsofthepropellerbladesor"stand"the
propelleronthepropellerbladetips.

Thestandshouldbeabletoholdthepropellersecurelyandhaveaweightlimitrating
atleasttwicethatoftheremovedpropeller.

Makesurethepropellerisprotectedfromdamagewhileinthestand.Allareasofthe
standthatcomeincontactwiththepropellershouldbepaddedsufcientlytoprevent
abrasiondamagetothepropeller.
(6)Installaprotectivecoveroverthepropellerhubmountingange.
(7)Installaprotectivecoverovertheopenendoftheenginepropellerange.
D.PropellerAssemblyInstallation
NOTE:McCauleyrecommendsthatpropellermountingnuts(ifapplicable)bereplacedateach
propellerinstallation,wheneverpossible.However,nutsmaybereusedprovidingthreads
areingoodconditionandthelockingmaterialpreventsturningofthenutonthestudby
hand.
(1)Ifrequired,attachbulkheadmountingringorbulkheadtohub.Makesurethe(felttippen)
alignmentmarksbetweenthebulkheadandthepropellerbladeareinalignment.
(2)Removetheprotectivecoverfromtheendoftheenginepropellerange.
(3)Ensurethatenginepropellerange,hubmountingange,dowelsandholes,mountingstuds
andholesareclean,dry,andfreeofdamageandforeignmaterial.
(4)Removeprotectivecoverfromthepropellerhubmountingange.
(5)EnsurethatanewMcCauleyO-ring(A-1633-3O-ringforairplaneswithContinentalengine
installations)isinstalledinthegrooveofthepropellerhubmountingange.LubricatetheO-ring
withengineoilpriortoinstallationofpropeller.
NOTE:Inthepast,newpropellerassembliesshippedfromMcCauley,thepropeller
hub/engineO-ringwasinstalledintheO-ringgrooveofnewpropellersandhub
assemblies.Thispracticehasbeendiscontinued.TheO-ringisnowincludedin
thepropellerunattachedpartskit,whichisincludedintheboxwiththepropeller
orhubassembly.InstalltheO-ringaccordingtotheassemblyinstructionsinthis
Owner/OperatorManual.
(6)Installthepropellerslingandattachtoahoist.Ifahoistisnotavailable,thepropellermaybe
supportedandliftedbyhand.
NOTE:Makesureanadequatenumberofpeopleareavailabletosupportthepropellerifa
hoistisnotused.
(a)Thestrapsofthepropellerslingshouldbeplacedontwoofthepropellerbladesatleast6
inches(152mm)outboardofthepropellerhub.Makesureyouprotectthedeicebootsor
anti-iceshoesfrompotentialpropellerslingabrasiondamage,ifinstalled.
(b)Theslingandhoistshouldhaveaweightlimitratingatleasttwicetheweightofthepropeller
thatistobeinstalled.
(7)Positionthepropellerclosetotheenginepropellerangeandalignthedowelpinswiththedowel
pinholesifapplicable.
