(a)Feelthebladesandmovethemtondunusualchangesinloosenessandunusualplay.
1Blade-to-bladedifferencesindicatethataninternalproblemmayexist.
(6)AnyindicationsofdamagethatisgreaterthanthelimitsinprovidedTable603,PropellerNick
andScrapeLimits,willrequirethepropellertobereexaminedbyanFAAapprovedpropeller
repairstationorinternationalequivalent.
B.SpinnerandBulkhead.
(1)Externallyexaminethespinnerandbulkheadforsecurity,missingfasteners,damage,and
cracks.Crackstypicallystartfromthescrewsthatattachthespinnertothebulkhead.
(a)Repairofcracksinthespinnerorspinnerbulkheadisnotpermitted.
(2)Checkforloosenessoftheaftspinnerbulkhead.Aloosebulkheadcouldbeanindicationthat
thepropellermountingboltsareloose.
(3)Weardepthontheinsideofthespinnermustnotexceed0.010inch(0.25mm).
NOTE:Wearinsidethespinnercanbecausedbyimpropershimmingofthespinnerorby
deiceleadsrubbing.
C.OilandGreaseLeakage.
(1)Lookforredoilorenginelubricantleaksinunusualplaces,suchastheoutsidesurfacesand
seals.
(2)Oilorgreaseleakagemaybeduetoasealfailureoracrackinthehuborblade.
(a)Thesourceoftheoilorgreaseleakshouldbedeterminedbeforeight.
(b)Duringmaintenance,wipethesurfacesofthepropellerafterthisinspection,notbefore,
sinceoilleakingfromacrackmayassistindetectingit.
(c)Redoilgivesapositivewarningofacrackinthehuboradamagedseal.
(3)Ifthereisanindicationofacrackinthepropellerhub,thepropellermustbeexaminedbyan
FAAapprovedpropellerrepairstationorinternationalequivalentbeforepropelleroperation.
D.ControlSystem.
(1)Thecontrolsystem(governor)shouldbecheckedtodetermineifthesystemisoperating
properly.Makesuretherearenooilleaksfromthegovernor.
E.MaintenanceRecords.
(1)Noteanyindicationsofpropellerwearordamageinthepropellerlogbookforfuturereference
todeterminewhetheranobservedconditionisgettingworse.
4.100HourandAnnualInspection
A.Ateach100hours,Annual,orotherrequiredinspectioninterval,examinethepropellerinaccordance
withtheapplicableinspectionintheaircraftmaintenancemanual.Theinspectionshouldinclude:
(1)Removethespinner.
(2)Inspectionofallattachinghardware,includingthehardwareunderthespinner,forsecurity.
Tightenifnecessary.
(3)Checkentirepropellerassemblyforcorrosion,cracks,delaminationorotherdamage..
(a)RepairanydamagefoundinaccordancewiththeinstructionsinthePropellerApproved
Repairsand/ortheCleaning/Painting/ProtectiveTreatmentssectionsofthismanual.
(b)Forpropellerassemblydamagethatcannotberepairedinaccordancewiththeinstructions
inthismanual,takethepropellerassemblytoanFAAapprovedPart145PropellerRepair
Stationorinternationalequivalentforrepair.
(4)Touch-upthepaintonthepropellerblades,asnecessary,inaccordancewiththeinstructionsin
Cleaning/Painting/ProtectiveTreatments.
(5)Examineallplacardsforlegibilityandsecurityofinstallation.Replaceallplacardsthatare
illegibleornotsecure.
(6)Inspectentirepropellersystemforoilleakage.Ifleakageisconrmed,thepropellershouldbe
removed,thoroughlyinspected,andresealedbyanFAAapprovedPart145PropellerRepair
Stationorinternationalequivalentortechnician.
(7)Thepropellermountingbolttorqueshouldbecheckedatleastonceayear.
(8)Deiceboots(ifinstalled)
