(a)Closelycheckeachdeicebootforwrinkled,loose,ortornareas,particularlyaroundthe
outboardedges.Lookforabrasionorcuts,especiallyalongtheleadingedgeandtheface
oratsideofeachpropellerblade.
1Foreignobjectdamagemustbegivencarefulinspection,notjustfordamagetothe
deiceboot,butalsoforbladedamagebeneaththeboot.Bootelasticitymayobscure
bladedamage.Ifthedeicebootisdamagedorcutcompletelythroughtotheblade
orifbladedamagebeneathabootissuspected,thethebootmustberemovedfor
bladesurfaceinspectionintheareaofthedeicebootdamage.

(a)ForpropellersequippedwithMcCauleyinstalledanti-iceequipment,refertoAnti-Ice
System-Inspection/Check.
5.TimeBetweenPropellerOverhaul
A.ThefollowingisMcCauley’smandatoryspeciedtimebetweenoverhaulforpropellers.These
specicationsarebasedonhoursofoperationandcalendartime,whicheveroccursrst.Thestarting
pointforthecalendarlimitisthedateofrstinstallationonanengine(notfromdateofmanufacture
oroverhaul).Dateofmanufactureoroverhaulisapplicablewhendetermininglongtermstorage
inspections.Ifthepropellerhasbeenremovedfromservice,theTBOcalendarlimitstillappliesfrom
thedatethepropellerwasrstputintoservice,onceapropellerhasbeenplacedintoservice,long
termstoragewillnothaveanaffectontheTBOcalendarlimit.
NOTE:Calendarmonthistheperiodoftimefromtherstdayofamonthtothelastdayofthe
month.Whenthetermcalendarmonthisused,compliancecanbeachievedatanytime
duringthemonth,uptoandincludingthelastdayofthemonth.ForExample:apropeller
witha60calendarmonthinspectionintervalisinspectedandapproveduponanygiven
dayofthemonth.Thispropellerwillbecomedueforinspectionuponthelastdayofthe
samemonth,60monthslater.
B.AlldeviationsfrompublishedTBOsmustbeapprovedbyyourlocalRegulatoryAuthoritywitha
recommendationfromMcCauley.
C.Ifthepropellerisinstorageinexcessofthreeyears,additionalinspectionsarerequired.Once
installedonanaircraft,thepropellercalendarlimitisnotinterruptedbysubsequentremovaland/or
storage.
D.Propelleroverhaulshould,asmuchaspractical,coincidewithengineoverhaul.Forexample,in
acasewherepropellerTBOis2,000hoursandengineTBOis1800hours,thepropellershould
beoverhauledatthesametimeastheengine.ThisisappropriateaslongasneitherTBOlimitis
exceeded.

Bulletins.ThesemayrequirecompliancepriortoTBO.
E.TBOspecicationsarebasedonnormalaircraftwithnormalandcontinuoususage.Flighttimeand
calendarlimitmustnotbetheonlyfactorsconsideredindeterminingwhenapropellerneedstobe
overhauled.Factorssuchasoperatingconditionsorenvironmentoftendemandthatapropeller,
governor,oraccumulatorbeoverhauledpriortoTBO.Eventhoughapropeller,governor,or
accumulatormaybeoperatingnormallyandhaveagoodexternalappearancewhentheTBOight
timeorcalendarlimitisreached,operationbeyondthespeciedTBOlimitsisnotpermitted.
F.PropellerModels
(1)Thepropellermodeldesignationisimpressionstampedonthepropellerhub.Changeletters
arefrequentlystampedattheendofthemodeldesignation(e.g.D3A37C3401-A).Theseletters
indicateengineeringchangesand/orpreviousoverhaulmodications.InT able1,unlessspecic
changelettersareshown,theoverhaulfrequencynoteappliestoallpropellersofthatmodel,
regardlessofchangeletters.Usethehighestletterstampedafterthehubmodelnumberto
determinefrequencyofoverhaul.RefertoTale601.
