(b)Inspectallbladesfordamagesuchasscrapes,gouges,etc.causedbytheimpact.Any
damagebeyondnormallimitsiscauseforpropellerremovalandrepair.
(c)Checkthebladetrackandverifythatallbladesmeasurewithinthefollowinglimits:
10.060inch(1.52mm)ofeachotheronpistonenginepropellers.
(d)Checkbladetwist.Allbladesinapropellershouldhavethesameamountof"rotational
play".Ifthedifferenceinrotationalplaybetweentwobladesisbeyond1.0degree,uneven
internalwearordamageisthepossiblecause.
1Forexample;rotationalmovementofNo.1blademeasures1.2degreesandNo.
2blademeasures2.3degrees.Thiswouldbeconsideredexcessivesincethe
differenceismorethan1.0degree.

Thischeckmustbeperformedevery10hoursforthenext20hoursafterabirdstrike.
Ifnochangeisseenafter20hours,inspectionsmaybediscontinued.
NOTE:Theresultsofabirdstrikeinspectionshouldbenotedinthepropellerlog
bookand,ifrequired,notewhenthenextinspectionisdue.
(e)Forapropellerthatisfoundtobedamagedbeyondthenormallimits,thepropellermustbe
removedfromtheaircraftandoverhauledbyanFAAapprovedPart145PropellerRepair
StationorinternationalequivalentbypersonneltrainedtooverhaulMcCauleycomposite
propellers.
(3)SuddenEngineStoppage
(a)"SuddenStoppage"isdenedasanypropellerexperiencingasuddendecreaseinRPM.
Thisiscommonlyduetoenginefailureorseizure.Pleasenote,determinationastowhether
ornotsuddenenginestoppagehasoccurredisultimatelytheresponsibilityoftheaircraft
operator.McCauleyrecommendsconsultingtheenginemanufacturer'sdatatodetermine
criteriaforsuddenenginestoppage.
(b)AnyMcCauleypropellerexperiencingasuddenstoppagemustberemovedfromthe
aircraftandcompletelyoverhauledbyanFAAapprovedPart145PropellerRepair
StationorinternationalequivalentbypersonneltrainedtooverhaulMcCauleycomposite
propellers.
7.BladeTrackCheck
A.Check
(1)TurnpropellersothatNumber1bladeisstraightdown.
(2)Positionasmoothboardbeneaththebladetip.
(3)Blockuptheboardrmlyinplacejustclearofthebladetip.
(4)Placeapencilmarkapproximatelyoneinch(25mm)longontheboardatthemidpointofthe
outeredgeofNumber1bladetip.
NOTE:Makesurethenormalpropellerbladeshakemovementdoesnotaffecttheresultsof
thistest.Donotpushorpullthebladewhilemakingathepencilmark.
(5)Turnthepropellersonextbladeisstraightdown.
(6)Placeathinone-inch(25mm)lineontheboardatthemidpointoftheouteredgeofthesecond
bladetip.
(7)Carefullyturnpropeller,andrepeattrackingmeasurementforeachblade.
(8)Eachtimealineisadded,measurethehorizontaldifferencebetweenthelinesfarthestapart.
(a)FortheC3400modelseriespropeller,allbladesmustmeasurewithin0.060inch(1.52
mm)ofeachother.
(9)Ifbladetrackdifferenceexceedstheallowablelimits,removethepropellerandhavethepropeller
facealignmentcheckedbyanFAAapprovedPart145PropellerRepairStationorinternational
equivalent.
NOTE:Abentenginecrankshaftorunauthorizedpropellerbladerepairscancausethe
propellerbladetracktobebeyondtheallowablelimits.
