1.Iftheringgearwasremovedfromthedifferentialcase,usemediumstrength
Loctitethreadlockerandtightenthemountingscrewsto30to34N·m(22
to25ft-lb).
2.Applymolybdenumdisuldelubricant(Threebond1901orequivalent)tothe
splinesandbearingsurfacesofthedifferentialpiniongears,pinionwashers,
andsidegears.
3.Installthesidegearshimsandsidegearsintheiroriginallocationinthe
differentialcase.
4.Placethedifferentialpiniongearsandpinionwashersintheiroriginallocation
inthedifferentialcase.T emporarilyinstallthedifferentialpinionshaft.
5.Securethedifferentialcaseinasoftjawedvise.Positionadialindicatorona
toothofthedifferentialpiniongear.Pressthepinionandsidegearagainst
thedifferentialcaseandmeasurethepiniongeartosidegearbacklash
(Figure280).
Piniongeartosidegearbacklash:0.10to0.40mm(0.004to0.016inch)
6.Adjustbacklashbyincreasingorreducingthesidegearshimthickness.
Note:Sidegearshimsareavailablein1.10mm(0.043inch),1.20mm
(0.047inch),and1.30mm(0.051inch)thickness.
7.Applygearmarkingcompound,suchasDyKemsteelbluelightlyover
severalgearteeth.
8.Whileapplyingalightloadtoeithersidegear,rotateeitherpiniongearuntil
thesidegearshavemade1completerevolution.

13.CoatanewO-ringwithgreaseandinstalltheleftsideaxlesupporthalf.
Tightentheaxlesupportcasescrewsto47to56N·m(35to41ft-lb).
14.Installtheinputshaft/piniongearassembly;refertotheInputShaft/Pinion
