ServicingtheAirCleaner
ServiceInterval:Every250hours—Replacetheprimary
airlter(moreoftenindustyorsandy
conditions).
Every250hours—Checkthesafetyairlter.
Every500hours—Replacethesafetyairlter.
Note:Checktheltersmorefrequentlyiftheoperating
conditionsareextremelydustyorsandy.
RemovingtheFilters
1.DisengagethePTO,movethemotion-controlleversto
theneutral-lockedposition,andsettheparkingbrake.
2.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforallmoving
partstostopbeforeleavingtheoperatingposition.
3.Releasethelatchesontheaircleanerandpullthe
air-cleanercoverofftheair-cleanerbody(Figure37).

Note:Avoidknockingthelterintothesideofthe

6.Removethesafetylteronlyifyouintendtoreplaceit.
Important:Donotattempttocleanthesafety
lter.Ifthesafetylterisdirty,thentheprimary
lterisdamaged.Replacebothlters.
7.Inspecttheprimarylterfordamagebylookinginto
thelterwhileshiningabrightlightontheoutsideof
thelter.Holesinthelterwillappearasbrightspots.
Ifthelterisdamaged,discardit.
ServicingthePrimaryFilter
•Iftheprimarylterisdirty,bent,ordamaged,replaceit.
•Donotcleantheprimarylter.
ServicingtheSafetyFilter
Replacethesafetylter,nevercleanit.
Important:Donotattempttocleanthesafetylter.
Ifthesafetylterisdirty,thentheprimarylteris
damaged.Replacebothlters.
InstallingtheFilters
Important:Topreventenginedamage,alwaysoperate
theenginewithbothairltersandthecoverinstalled.
1.Ifinstallingnewlters,checkeachlterforshipping
damage.
Note:Donotuseadamagedlter.
2.Ifthesafetylterisbeingreplaced,carefullyslideit
intothelterbody(Figure37).
3.Carefullyslidetheprimarylteroverthesafetylter
(Figure37).
Note:Ensurethattheprimarylterisfullyseatedby
pushingonitsouterrimwhileinstallingit.
Important:Donotpressonthesoftinsidearea
ofthelter.
4.Installtheair-cleanercoverwiththesideindicatedas
upfacingupwardandsecurethelatches(Figure37).
