Checkthebeltsforcracks,frayededges,burnmarksor
anyotherdamage.Replacedamagedbelts.
ReplacingtheMowerBelt
Squealingwhenthebeltisrotating,bladesslippingwhen
cuttinggrass,frayedbeltedges,burnmarksandcracks
aresignsofawornmowerbelt.Replacethemowerbelt
ifanyoftheseconditionsareevident.
1.DisengagethePTO,movethemotioncontrollevers
totheneutrallockedposition,andsettheparking
brake.
2.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Removethebeltcovers.
4.Loosenthenutsecuringtheidlerplateandmove
theidlerplatetorelievethebelttensionontheidler
pulley(Figure45).
5.Removethenut,washerandbeltguidefromtherear
leftsidepulley.
6.Removethemowerbeltfromthebeltguidesand
removethebelt(Figure45).
7.Installthenewmowerbeltaroundthemowerspindle
pulleys,moweridlerpulley,intothebeltguides,into
rearidlerarmassembly,andtheclutch(Figure45).
8.Installthebeltguidewithawasherandnutontothe
rearleftsidepulley.
Note:Checktheamountoftwistinthebelt
betweenthepulleys.Ensureitisonlywhatis
speciedinFigure45.

position.
3.Raisethemowertothetransportposition.
Important:Checktheamountoftwistinthe
beltbetweenthepulleys.Makesureitisonly
whatisspeciedinFigure45.
Important:Checkandmakesurethebeltis
installedintoboththefrontandrearbeltguides
(Figure46).
4.Checkthebelttension.Thespringloadedidler
centerboltneedstobenearthetopalignmenthole
inleftsupportplate(Figure46).
