Understandingthe
TurnaroundMode
Theturnaroundmodeallowsyouconvenient,1-touch
controltoraisethecuttingunitsabovetheturfwhile
temporarilystoppingtheblades,allowingyoutofocus
ondrivingthemachineattheendofamowingpass,
orwhilenavigatingotherobstacles.
Note:Theturnaroundmodeisafeatureinthe
protectedsettings.
WhentheturnaroundmodeissettotheON
position,youmomentarilypresstheliftswitch
rearward(Figure11)toautomaticallyraiseall
cuttingunitsfromtheoatpositiontoapreset
height,automaticallydisengagingthePTO.T o
resumemowing,presstheliftswitchforward.All
thecuttingunitslower,andthePTOstartsagain.
WhentheturnaroundmodeissettotheOFF
position,youmanuallyraisethecuttingunits
fromtheoatpositionbypressingandholding
allliftswitchesrearwarduntilthecuttingunits
raisetothedesiredheight.ForGroundsmaster
4700machines,pressall3liftswitchestoraise
all7cuttingunits(Figure11).ThePTOdoesnot
disengageuntilthecuttingunitsraisetothesame
presetheighttowhichthecuttingunitsraisewhen
theturnaround-modeissettoON.

Understanding
Counterbalance
Thecounterbalancesystemmaintainshydraulic
backpressureonthecutting-unitliftcylinders.The
counterbalancesystemmonitorsthereal-timetraction
pressure,dynamicallychangingthelift-cylinderback
pressuretooptimizetractioncapabilityandafter-cut
appearance.Thecounterbalancepressurehasbeen
setatthefactorytoanoptimalbalanceofafter-cut
appearanceandtractioncapabilityinmostturf
conditions.Decreasingthecounterbalancesettingcan
produceamorestablecuttingunitbutcandecrease
thetractioncapability.Increasingthecounterbalance
settingcanincreasethetractioncapability,but
mayresultinapoorafter-cutappearance;referto
ProtectedMenus(page31).
Thecustomizablecounterbalancesettingcontrolsare
asfollows:
Low—themostamountofweightoncuttingunits
andthelowestweightonthedrivewheels
Medium—mediumweightoncuttingunitsandthe
drivewheels
High—theleastamountofweightoncuttingunits
andthehighestweightonmachinedrivewheels
UnderstandingToroSmart
Power™
WithSmartPower,theoperatordoesnothaveto
listentotheenginespeedinheavyloadconditions.
SmartPowerpreventstheenginefrombogging
downinheavycuttingconditionsbyautomatically
controllingthemachinespeedandoptimizingcutting
performance.
Note:Bydefault,theSmartPowerfeatureisON.
StartingtheEngine
Important:Bleedthefuelsystemifanyofthe
followinghaveoccurred:
Theenginehasshutoffduetolackoffuel.
Maintenancehasbeenperformeduponthefuel
systemcomponents.
1.Removeyourfootfromthetractionpedaland
ensurethatitisinNEUTRAL.Ensurethatthe
parkingbrakeisengaged.
2.TurnthekeytotheRUNposition.Theglow
indicatorshouldilluminate.
3.Whentheglowindicatordims,turnthekeyto
theSTARTposition.
Important:Donotrunthestartermotor
morethan15secondsatatimeorpremature
starterfailuremayresult.Iftheenginefails
tostartafter15seconds,turnthekeyto
theOFFposition,checkthecontrolsand
procedures,wait15additionalseconds,and
repeatthestartingprocedure.
4.Releasethekeyimmediatelywhentheengine
startsandallowittoreturntotheRUNposition.
Whenthetemperatureislessthan-7°C(20°F),
thestartermotorcanberunfor30secondson
then60secondsofffor2attempts.
Important:Shutofftheengineandallowthe
enginetocoolbeforeyoucheckforoilleaks,
looseparts,orothermalfunctions.
