Adjusttheservicebrakeswhenthereismorethan
25mm(1inch)offreetravelofthebrakepedal,or
whenthebrakesdonotworkeffectively.Freetravelis
thedistancethebrakepedalmovesbeforeyoufeel
brakingresistance.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,engagethe
parkingbrake,lowerthecuttingunits,shutoff
theengine,andremovethekey.
2.Releasethelockinglatchfromthebrakepedals
sothatbothpedalsworkindependentlyofeach
other.
3.Toreducefreetravelofthebrakepedals,tighten
thebrakesasfollows:
A.Loosenthefrontnutonthethreadedendof
thebrakecable(Figure119).

Propertensionofthebeltallows10mm(3/8inch)of
deectionwhenaforceof4.5kg(10lb)isappliedon
thebeltmidwaybetweenthepulleys.
Ifthedeectionisnot10mm(3/8inch),loosenthe
alternator-mountingbolts(Figure120).
Note:Increaseordecreasethealternator-belt
tensionandtightenthebolts.Checkthedeectionof
thebeltagaintoensurethatthetensioniscorrect.
