Why does my Toro LX460 engine run erratic?

  If your Toro Lawn Mower engine runs erratically, first ensure the Throttle/Choke Control is not in the CHOKE position. Check and tighten the spark plug wires, and make sure the fuel line is clean and the fuel is fresh (less than 30 days old). Also, check if the vent in the gas cap is plugged, and drain the fuel tank if there's water or dirt in the fuel system. Finally, inspect the air cleaner and replace the paper element or clean the foam precleaner if dirty.

  There are several reasons why your Toro Lawn Mower engine might fail to start: * The PTO (Blade Engage) lever may be engaged, so place it in the OFF position. * The parking brake might not be engaged; make sure to engage it. * The spark plug wire could be disconnected; connect it to the spark plug. * The throttle/choke control may not be in the correct starting position; move it to the CHOKE position. * The fuel tank may be empty or the fuel stale; fill it with clean, fresh gas (less than 30 days old). * A blocked fuel line could be the issue; clean the fuel line or replace the fuel filter. * The spark plug could be faulty; clean, adjust the gap, or replace the plug. * The engine might be flooded; crank the engine with the throttle in the FAST position.
