5.Ensurethatthehydraulicuidisatnormaloperatingtemperatureby
operatingthemachineunderloadforapproximately10minutes.
6.Sitonseatandincreaseenginespeedtohighidlespeed.
7.Applybrakesandslowlypressthetractionpedalinthedirectiontobetested
(forwardorreverse).Whilepushingtractionpedaldown,carefullywatchthe
pressuregaugeneedle.Asthetractionreliefvalvelifts,thegaugeneedle
willmomentarilystop.Tractionsystempressureasthereliefvalveopens
shouldbeapproximately25,000kPa(3,625psi)inbothforward(R3)and
reverse(R4).
Note:Iftractionpedalcontinuestobepressedafterthereliefvalvehas
opened,systempressuremayincreasehigherthanreliefpressure.
8.Whenreliefpressurehasbeenidentied,releasetractionpedal,shutoff
theengine,andrecordtestresults.
Note:Forward(R3)andreverse(R4)reliefvalvesareidentical.Reliefvalves
canbeswitchedinpiston(traction)pumptohelpinidentifyingadamaged
reliefvalve.

9.Iftractionpressureproblemoccursin1directiononly,interchangetherelief
valvesinthepiston(traction)pump(Figure83)toseeiftheproblemchanges
totheotherdirection.Cleanorreplacevalvesasnecessary.Thesecartridge
typevalvesarefactoryset,andarenotadjustable.Iftractionreliefpressure
islowandreliefvalvesareingoodcondition,piston(traction)pump,and/or
wheelmotorsshouldbesuspectedofwearandinefciency.
10.Aftertestingiscompleted,ensurethattheengineisshutoffandthenrelieve
hydraulicsystempressure;refertoReleasingPressurefromtheHydraulic
System(page6–8).Removepressuregaugefrommachineandinstalldust
captotestport.
