VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
MAINTENANCE SAFETY
Toprevent seriousinjury or death, follow the proceduresandcomplywith the safety
information in this manual while performing vehicle service or maintenance.
Use the tools showninthe tool list andwear the specified safety equipment whenper-
forming vehicle service or maintenance.
Remove all jewelrybeforeyou service the vehicle.
Do not allow looseclothing or hair to contactthe moving parts.
Do not touch hot objects.
The drive wheels must be lifted and supported on jack stands before performing any ser-
vice to the powertrain while the motor is in operation.
Chock the wheels and support the vehiclewithjack stands. NEVER get underavehicle
that is supported by a jack alone. Lift the vehicle according to the manufacturers instruc-
tions.
Whenservicing the vehicle, always wear eye protection. Becareful when
working aroundbatteries,using solvents, or compressed air.
Use insulated tools within the battery areatoprevent sparksorbattery
explosion.
Maintain constant awareness that some components areheavy, spring loaded, corro-
sive, explosive, can causehigh amperage, or get extremelyhot. Battery acid and hydro-
gen gas can causebodily injury. Keep hands, face, feetandbody away from any area
that can expose them to injury if an unexpected situation occurs.
Afterperformingmaintenance, test the vehicle in a safe areathat is free from vehicle and
person traffic.
NOTICE: To decrease the risk of engine damage, do not operate the vehicle at full throttle for more than 5
seconds if the drive wheels are lifted off the ground.
SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
Consistent inspection, adjustment, and lubrication of some components are necessary to maintain the vehicle so that
it remains in safe and reliable condition. Refer to the SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE CHART on page 30 for detailed
requirements.
Inspect, clean, lubricate, adjust, and replace parts as necessary. Use the original manufacturer or equivalent replace-
ment parts.
Record the maintenance items performed along with details in the MAINTENANCE LOG beginning on page 51.
NOTICE: Service and adjustments are important for safe and reliable vehicle operation. If not familiar with
safe service and adjustment procedures, have a certified dealer perform the operations.
Initial Service Requirements
Perform the additional inspection or maintenance at the initial service interval indicated, in addition to regular intervals.
See SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE CHART on page 30. The initial service is required for optimum performance and
reliability.

Severe Use Conditions
Vehicles subjected to heavy or severe use must be inspected and serviced more frequently than those of normal use
patterns.The following conditions are considered severe use:
• frequent or prolonged use in a dusty environment • frequent use in mud, water or sand
• prolonged low speed operation • short trips in cold weather
• prolonged heavy load operation
