This document describes the Trane FWD series of ductable water units, which are designed for installation in false ceilings, lofts, and ventilation spaces. These units are intended for horizontal installation with discharge via a duct, and their structure consists of unpainted, completely insulated galvanized steel panels. The manual provides comprehensive information on installation, operation, and maintenance.
Function Description:
The Trane FWD ductable water unit is a slim discharge cabinet unit primarily used for cooling and heating applications in commercial or residential settings. It functions by circulating water through a coil to exchange heat with the air, which is then distributed through ducts. The unit is designed to provide conditioned air quietly and efficiently within a ducted system.

Usage Features:
- Installation Flexibility: Can be installed in false ceilings, lofts, or ventilation spaces, and can be mounted on the ground. For ceiling installation, four 8 mm threaded rods are used with angle brackets. The unit must be positioned absolutely level to ensure proper condensate flow.
- Duct Connections: FWD units can be fitted directly with rectangular discharge and intake ducts. The air intake can be located at the back or underneath the unit.
- Electrical Connections: All electrical wiring and connections must comply with local electricity legislation. The electrical cabinet can be moved up to 500 mm for easier access. Copper conductors are required for all connections.
- Hydraulic Connections: The coil is connected via 3/4" or 1"1/2 female ISO R7 connectors. Care must be taken to limit tightening torque to prevent deformation and leaks.
- Condensate Drainage: The drainage tube must be sloped 10° and insulated to prevent condensation. A condensate pump accessory is available if gravity drainage is not possible.
- Fan Speed Selection: The fan rotation speed can be wired to the required speed based on the static pressure and flowrate requirements, using the provided electrical diagrams.
Maintenance Features:
- Regular Inspections: The frequency of maintenance depends on usage conditions and is determined by regular inspections.
- Air Filter Cleaning: Air filters should be cleaned by beating them and drawing air through them in the opposite direction of normal airflow. Filters are not supplied with the unit but can be ordered as accessories (filter box with EU2 filters).
- Condensate Tube Check: Condensate tubes should be checked to ensure they are not obstructed.
- Fan Blade Inspection: Fan blades should be rotated by hand to ensure free movement, checked for damage, cleaned if necessary, and verified for correct alignment.
- Motor and Electrical System Check: Motor wiring and switches should be checked for correct operation. Damaged components must be replaced. Safety disconnection and other electrical components should be checked for correct operation.
- Water Circuit Inspection: The water circuit should be checked for leaks.
- Fastener Tightening: All nuts and bolts should be tightened.
- Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to diagnose common issues such as the unit not powering up, not operating, fan motors not working, and incorrect room temperature or airflow. Solutions are provided for each possible cause.
- Fan Motor Removal: Detailed instructions are provided for removing the fan motor assembly, which involves unscrewing panels, support brackets, and the electrical cabinet base, and loosening condensate tray screws. This allows for maintenance or replacement of the fan motor.
The manufacturer emphasizes the importance of following installation and maintenance instructions to ensure the unit's longevity and to maintain warranty validity. A maintenance contract with a qualified service technician is strongly recommended.
