Overview

This document serves as an installation and operating manual for the Triton Madrid II electric shower, providing comprehensive guidance for both installers and users to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Function Description

The Triton Madrid II electric shower is designed to provide instant hot water for showering by heating mains cold water as it passes through the unit. It operates on a continuous flow principle, meaning water is heated on demand, eliminating the need for a hot water storage tank. The shower features a power selector with multiple settings (Stop, Cold, Economy, and High) and a temperature control knob, allowing users to adjust the water temperature and flow to their preference. The unit incorporates several safety features, including a low water pressure cut-out, a temperature protection (TP) system, and a non-resettable thermal cut-out safety device, which automatically disconnects power to the heating elements in case of abnormal operation or excessive temperatures. The shower is intended for permanent connection to the water mains and requires a dedicated electrical circuit with a suitable double pole isolation switch and a 30mA residual current device (RCD) for safety.

Usage Features

To start the shower, the user turns the power selector knob from the 'STOP' position to either the 'Cold', 'Economy', or 'High' setting. The 'Cold' setting provides unheated water. The 'Economy' setting uses less power and is suitable for warmer months, with temperature adjustment via the temperature control knob. The 'High' setting provides the highest flow achievable for the desired temperature, also adjustable with the temperature control. The power light illuminates when the electricity supply to the shower is switched on at the isolating switch. To stop the shower, the power selector is turned back to the 'STOP' position, and the main power isolator switch should then be turned off.

The temperature control knob allows for fine-tuning the water temperature. Turning the knob anti-clockwise increases the water flow, making the shower cooler, while turning it clockwise decreases the water flow, making it warmer. It's important to note that on the 'Cold' setting, the temperature control only alters the force of the water, not its temperature. Users are advised to test the water temperature with their hand before stepping under the showerhead, as there is a brief delay between adjusting the flow rate and the water reaching a stable temperature. The manual also warns that if restarting the shower immediately after stopping, a slug of hot water may be expelled for the first few seconds. For optimal performance, especially during warmer months or if the stated flow rate cannot be met due to low water pressure, operating the unit on the 'Economy' setting may be necessary.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and performance of the Triton Madrid II electric shower. A key maintenance task is the periodic cleaning of the inlet filter, which is recommended to maintain the shower's performance. This operation should be carried out by a competent person. Before servicing, both the electricity and water supplies to the shower must be switched off at their respective isolating points. To access the filter, the cover and trimplate need to be removed, and the compression fitting disconnected. The filter, located in the inlet pipe, should be cleaned carefully using a soft brush, such as an old toothbrush, to avoid damage. After cleaning, the unit must be reassembled, and the full commissioning procedure (detailed in the manual) must be performed to ensure proper operation.

The showerhead also requires regular descaling to remove scale and debris. Failure to do so can restrict water flow, leading to higher temperatures and potentially causing the Pressure Relief Device (PRD) to operate. The PRD is a safety feature designed to protect the appliance from excessive pressure build-up. If the PRD operates, water will eject from the bottom of the unit, and the electricity and water supplies should be turned off immediately. In such cases, Customer Service should be contacted for advice on replacing the PRD. The manual emphasizes that the shower should not be operated with a damaged or kinked shower hose or a blocked showerhead, as this can also trigger the PRD. For all electrical maintenance or repairs, it is strongly advised that these tasks be carried out by a suitably qualified person. The manual also recommends having the shower and its installation checked by a competent electrician at least every two years to ensure there is no deterioration due to age and usage.
