INSTALLATION:
16. Install the speed control bearing [11] in the speed control bracket. Note that the bearing mounts be-
hind the bracket on the 60 quart and in front of the bracket on the 80 quart mixer. The longer screw
goes in the hole toward the front of the mixer.
NOTE: Do not tighten the screws at this time.
17. Install the speed control locating block [20] on the speed control shaft and press the roll pin
through the block and shaft until it is flush with the block.
18. Install one retaining ring [16] and slide it toward the block. Install the cam [15] with the roll pin
facing away from the speed control block and slide it up against the retaining ring. Install the re-
maining retaining ring. Do not place the retaining rings in the grooves in the shaft at this time.
Push the retaining rings and cam beyond the grooves. Slide the spring [10] on the shaft with the
shorter tang up against the cam.
19. Place the belleville washer [23] on the speed control shaft up against the block with the dish facing
away from the block and slide the detent housing [24] onto the shaft.
20. Push the speed control shaft assembly into the speed control bearing [11] and push the detent
housing inside the mixer housing and onto the mounting studs. Install the washers and Kep nuts
and tighten them finger tight. Align the detent housing and bearing bracket with the alignment
marks you made during disassembly and snug the nuts down.
21.. Tighten the screws that secure the speed control bearing [12 & 13] and slide the spring up against
the bearing with the tang in contact with the longer screw. Slide one retaining ring into the second
groove in the speed control shaft and install the key [8] in the shaft. Slide the cam up against the
retaining ring and slide the second retaining ring up against the cam and in the groove in the shaft.
22. Install the strap [3] with the washers and nuts on the studs in the mixer housing and tighten the
nuts finger tight.
23. Push the speed control shaft all the way through the mixer housing. Rotate the speed control shaft
so that the cam is away from the upper vari-speed pulley. Push the speed control lever on the end
of the shaft with the speed control lever in speed “4” and install the roll pin [2] flush with the hub.
24. Rotate the speed control lever two full turns clockwise
to wind the spring. Place a drop of 271
Loctite on the set screws [7] and install the set screws in the detent housing. Leave the set screws
protruding about 1/4 inch from the detent housing. Make sure the speed control lever is on the cor-
rect side of the set screw.
25. Place the ball [22] and spring [21] in the hole in the block. Place one or two drops of 271 Loctite
on the set screw [18] and install it in the block behind the ball and spring. Turn the set screw in and
move the speed control handle until you can feel the ball drop into the holes in the detent housing.
Do not over tighten the screw or the speed control will bind.
26. Install and adjust the drive belt per the instructions in section 2, Mechanics Maintenance “BELT
ADJUSTMENT” instructions on page 2.2.
