Punctures
Changing wheels
Spare wheel
The bus is fitted with a spare wheel
located underneath the driver's place.
To remove the spare wheel for use, open
the front hatch. Unhook the spare wheel
tensioning band and lower the spare
wheel base support to the ground. Pull
out the wheel from underneath the front
of the bus.
After the wheel has been replaced, put
the punctured wheel back in the the
spare wheel base support. Lift the spare
wheel base support using the belt
tensioner.
CAUTION
In the event of a tyre puncture, keep in
mind that tyres are very heavy, approx.
100 kg. Volvo strongly recommend calling
for assistance when replacing punctured
tyres.
Before removing a wheel
Move the bus to a firm, flat surface.
Apply the parking brake.
Turn on the hazard lights.
Put out the warning triangle.
Ask the passengers to leave the bus.
DANGER
Never get under a vehicle that is lifted only
with a jack! Should it be neccessary to get
underneath, ensure the jack gets
completmentary support from axle stands
or other suitable equipment.
Removing the wheel
1
Place chocks to block the wheels
that have to remain on the ground.
WARNING
Always make sure that the bus cannot
move.
2
Ensure that the jack is placed on a
firm, horizontal surface.
Align the jack under the axle
indicated by the label.
DANGER
Ensure the jack is placed so that no arms
or body parts can get caught beneath the
bus when lifting the bus.
3
Loosen the wheel nuts but do not
remove them.
4
Ensure that the bus cannot slide off
the jack while lifted.
5
Raise the bus until the wheel loses
contact with the ground.
6
Remove the wheel nuts completely
and remove the wheel.
For the rear wheels:
The jacking point can be a fixture on the
chassis or sometimes on an air spring
member. Use the adapter if the bus is
lifted by the air spring member.
Fitting a wheel
Always use studs and nuts that are
specified for the particular type of wheels
you have.
Clean and lubricate the wheel bolt
threads, using only oil.
Clean the contact surfaces on the
wheel, the brake drum and the hub.
Make sure that the tyres always have the
correct pressure and that the correct size
and type of tyres are used.
Fitting a single wheel
1
Place the wheel on the hub so that it
is centred.
2
Fit the nuts and gently tighten so that
the wheel is centred. Torque-tighten
the wheel nuts to 200 ±8 Nm
according to the tightening
sequence.
