Vehicle cleaning
temperature. This may cause a
temporary effect on the adhesion of the
coating.
CAUTION
Wash the bus more often during the winter
or other dirty driving conditions. Gritting
salt and moisture can cause corrosion.
Car wash
Before entering a car wash, check that
any extra fittings are well fastened to
ensure that the car washs brushes do
not knock them off.
Only wash the bus in a car wash with
clean brushes.
NOTE
It is not recommended to use a car wash
for the first 4 weeks after delivery, since
the paint will not have hardened
sufficiently.
Brushes
• Nylon brushes cause higher wear on
the paint finish than polishing
brushes.
• Dirt in the brushes can be caused by
incorrect handling of cleaning agents.
Waxing
Wax is used in order to properly maintain
and protect the paint finish. When water
forms droplets on the surface, it indicates
that the paint finish is covered with a
protective layer. When the water no
longer form droplets it is time to renew
the protective layer.
Before waxing the paint finish, the bus
should be washed thoroughly.
• Do not put wax on a surface that
cannot be buffed up easily .
• The optimum ambient temperature
for waxing is 15-25°C.
• Apply the wax in thin layers.
• Dry the applied wax coat with a soft
cotton cloth to obtain a sheen.
CAUTION
Do not wax the bus during the first 90 days
from the delivery date.
NOTE
Never wax the bus in full sunlight. The
surface will be too hot and the wax will be
difficult to remove, and this may result in
spots.
Some cleaning agents contain wax. No
additional waxing should be carried out.
NOTE
Waxing reduces the need for some strong
cleaning agents and reduce corrosion. It
also shorten the cleaning time.
Polishing
Polishing can be carried out when dirt
has not been removed after cleaning, or
if there are small scratches in the paint
finish.
Polishing gives new lustre to damaged or
faded paint.
CAUTION
Polishing causes a reduction in the
thickness of the paint layer.
• Wash the bus before polishing.
• Only use pastes and polishing
agents recommended by autorized
Volvo service outlets together with its
instructions.
• Small fragments of the painted
surface can be buffed up by hand
using a soft cloth.
Contact a Volvo workshop for polishing
larger areas.
Windshield
To prevent windshield wiper streaking,
keep silicone sprays away from the
windshield. Remove road film and wax
build-up from windows with soap and
lukewarm water or with an alcohol based
cleaning agent. If a chamois is used to
dry and polish glass, use it exclusively
for that purpose.
