Gearbox
Automatic gear changing
Gear changing occurs automatically and
the driver can focus on driving.
When changing gear, the system checks
clutch, gearbox and engine throttle
application. The system selects gear and
gear changing point so that driving and
fuel economy are optimised. It is based
on accelerator pedal position, bus
weight, road gradient, bus acceleration,
etc.
When driving in the automatic position D,
maximum use is made of the gearbox
potential.
In automatic position, it is also possible
to adjust the gears up or down manually
using the +/− buttons.
The arrows in the driver information
display indicate how many steps you can
change up or down.
The system reevaluates, during driving,
a gear selected with the +/− buttons and
changes to a more suitable gear when
necessary.
Locking the gear
Examples of when automatic upshifting
or downshifting is not required can be:
When the bus approaches a crest of
a hill and you want to prevent an
unnecessary downshifting.
On an uphill gradient with a flat
section.
When driving on poor road surfaces.
When automatic upshift or downshift is
not required, depress the M button. No
further gear changing occurs and the
current gear remains.
The function can be used in all forward
gears, 1 to 12.
To return to automatic gear changing
again, depress the D button.
NOTE
There is risk of over revving when the gear
is locked.
CAUTION
Starting in too high gear strains the clutch
a lot, which increases the risk for clutch
breakdown.
