Controls
move sliding button (2) to the spring-
return position RESUME.
NOTE
This does not apply if the cruise control is
deactivated by moving the sliding button
(2) to the OFF position.
Retarder control
The symbol for retarder is shown when
the function is active.
A number or letter in the driver
information display shows the position of
the retarder.

B Braking program
Automatic
In position A, the retarder acts together
with the normal wheel brakes when the
brake pedal is depressed.
Manual
Move the retarder control to 1, 2, or 3
and release the accelerator pedal. The
brake is applied with more force for each
step.
To lower fuel consumption and reduce
retarder stress, return the lever to
position 0 or A after manual braking.
Braking program
Move the retarder control to position B to
engage the brake program. The gearbox
automatically changes to the gear
providing optimum retarder effect.
Deactivate the retarder
CAUTION
Do not deactivate the retarder function
unless it is necessary since it wears out
the brake linings.
The retarder function can be deactivated
in the following ways:
• Move the retarder control to position
0.
• Move the retarder control to position
A and release the brake pedal.
• Move the retarder control to position
1, 2 or 3 and depress the accelerator
pedal.
NOTE
The retarder is automatically deactivated
whenever the wheels attempt to lock up or
skid.
Speed limiter
Use speed restriction to limit the top
speed of the vehicle.
1 Move the retarder control to position
A.
2 Release the accelerator pedal.
NOTE
The cruise control must be deactivated.
Activate the speed limitation by pressing
+ or - button at the end of the retarder
control. To increase or decrease the
reference speed, repeatedly press the +
or - button.
