Overview

The VYMPEL CONG Prima 2M is a through-flow automatic hygrometer designed for the automatic measurement of water dew point (dpW) and hydrocarbon dew point (dpHC) in gas measuring facilities and other applications requiring gas quality monitoring. It operates on the principle of "total refraction" using a thermostatically controlled mirror.

Function Description:

The device determines dew point by monitoring the reflectivity of a dielectric condensation mirror made of silicone. A laser emits polarized light that, when the mirror is clean and no condensation is present, is completely refracted at the gas/mirror interface, resulting in a null signal at the photo detector.

When the mirror is chilled, water condensation forms droplets on its surface. These droplets scatter the polarized light, which is then registered by photo detectors (F1). The intensity of this signal correlates with the amount of water condensation, allowing for dpW determination.

For hydrocarbon dew point (dpHC) measurement, in the absence of water vapor, hydrocarbons condense as a smooth film on the chilled mirror. This film alters the angle of incidence for the polarized light. As light strikes the gas/condensation film interface, it is partially reflected. Due to the transparency of the condensate film, some light is also reflected at the interface between the condensation film and the mirror's surface. This results in two sets of reflected light rays, slightly out of phase, which are received by photo detector F2, producing a characteristic interference pattern. The intensity of this signal depends on the amount of hydrocarbon condensation, allowing for dpHC determination. The registration of dpHC occurs when the condensation film reaches a thickness of 5-10nm (default).

The CONG Prima 2M can measure dpHC when the gas is free of water vapor that would condense at a higher temperature than hydrocarbons. It can measure dpW regardless of hydrocarbon condensation temperature.

The device features a user interface with a display and magnetically activated control buttons (left-right, up-down) for selecting, altering, and entering parameter values. The menu is cyclically organized for ease of navigation and includes main headings such as "measure: HC," "measure: W," "measure: W & HC," "calibr: HC," "param. view," "clean mode," "service menu," "restart now," "test 4..20 ma," and "current version."

Usage Features:

The CONG Prima 2M is available in three configurations:

  1. KRAY 2.848.015-01 version: A measurement module without pre-installed gas delivery, filtration, or outflow systems, suitable for laboratories and industrial areas with high-purity gases, or for integration into existing measurement systems.
  2. KRAY 2.848.015 version with insertable sampling probe: Allows direct mounting onto gas lines (min. Ø 200mm) and ensures a clean gas sample. Ideal for gas transport facilities where gas composition does not include liquid contaminants. Includes a cut-off valve for maintenance without interrupting gas flow and a fine-tuning valve for sample gas flow adjustment. For outdoor installations, an insulated hood or weather shade is recommended to protect against weather and maintain temperature.
  3. KRAY 2.848.015-01 version with SGA 003 gas preparation system: Delivered pre-installed, suitable for heated indoor spaces and block boxes. The SGA 003 ensures sample gas is free of mechanical and aerosol contaminants using a patented gravity filter, eliminating the need for filter membranes. It allows for dpW measurement at operating pressure and dpHC at reduced pressures (e.g., 27 bar), supporting working pressures up to 160 bar. It also features an innovative reference module for mounting a "Hygrovision" series analyzer for control measurements.

The dpW and dpHC module ensures sample gas examination at operating pressure, independent of process-switch settings. A process switch allows testing dew point at operating pressure ("W" position) or reduced pressure ("HC" position).

Maintenance Features:

  • Mirror Cleaning: The analyzer automatically switches to mirror-cleaning mode if contamination is detected (Err 07). If contamination persists after three automatic cycles, manual cleaning is required.
  • Manual Mirror Cleaning: This procedure should only be performed in an explosion-proof area. It involves switching off power, unmounting the CP 2M, placing a protective cover, reactivating power, and activating cleaning mode. The mirror is heated to +55 °C. A cotton swab dipped in cleaning fluid (or acetone for stubborn residue) is used to gently clean the mirror surface, exerting minimal pressure to avoid damage.
  • Error Messages: The device displays specific error messages (Err 01-09) for various issues such as dew point outside range, water condensation before hydrocarbon detection, defective laser or photo sensor, outside temperature issues, malfunction in mirror temperature measurement, thermoelectric battery malfunction, sensor contamination, and persistent contamination after cleaning. Remedial actions are provided for each error.
  • Parameter Adjustment: Operational parameters can be checked and adjusted via the "param. view" function. A password is required to access and modify these settings, as incorrect modifications can compromise performance.
  • Factory Reset: The "Service Def.Par" function allows resetting the analyzer to factory settings.
  • Software Version Check: The "Current version" function displays the software version and checksum.
  • Analogue Port Test: The "Test 4...20mA" function allows checking and adjusting the analogue data port output value (3.5 to 24 mA in 0.5 mA increments).
  • Recycling: The device materials are environmentally friendly. Old batteries should be disposed of by licensed companies.
