Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the Weber Spirit EX-315 and SX-315 LP gas grills, which are designed for outdoor use. The manual provides comprehensive information on safe operation, installation, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure a great grilling experience.

Function Description

The Weber Spirit EX-315 and SX-315 are LP (liquid propane) gas grills equipped with the integrated WEBER CONNECT technology. These grills are designed to provide a versatile and enjoyable grilling experience, allowing users to cook a wide variety of foods using both direct and indirect heat methods. The WEBER CONNECT module enables smart monitoring of internal grill temperature and food temperatures via probes, with data accessible through a smart device app (Bluetooth® or Wi-Fi connection). This technology provides notifications for flip and serve, food readiness countdowns, custom food doneness alerts, and step-by-step grilling assistance. The grill also features a fuel gauge to monitor LP tank levels, with notifications displayed on the WEBER CONNECT module and the app.

Usage Features

  • Ignition System: The grill utilizes a crossover ignition system to light the burners. Burner 1 (furthest to the left) is ignited first with a spark from the igniter electrode, generated by pushing the electronic ignition button. Subsequent burners can then be lit from burner 1. The manual provides detailed steps for safe ignition, including opening the lid, checking burner control knobs, slowly turning on the LP tank, and pushing the ignition button.
  • Temperature Control: Burner control knobs allow users to adjust the heat output for different cooking needs.
  • WEBER CONNECT Technology:
    • Remote Grill Monitor: Users can monitor grill and food temperatures remotely via a smart device using the WEBER CONNECT app, connecting via Bluetooth® or Wi-Fi.
    • Step-by-Step Grilling: The app provides notifications for when to flip, rest, and serve food, along with countdowns.
    • App-Enabled Food Thermometers: Food probes (one included, additional sold separately) monitor food temperature and doneness, notifying the user via the app when it's time to flip, rest, or serve.
    • Recipes and Instruction: The app offers Weber recipes and cook programs with real-time, step-by-step grilling instructions tailored to cook preference and cut of meat.
    • LED Display Dashboard: The module's LED display shows temperatures, notifications, connectivity status, and cook status.
    • Fuel Gauge: An easy-to-read fuel gauge indicates the LP tank's fuel level, with notifications on the WEBER CONNECT module and app.
  • Cooking Grates: Porcelain-enameled, cast iron cooking grates are reversible. The thin side is ideal for delicate foods like fish and shrimp, while the wider side creates thick sear marks.
  • Warming Rack: A warming rack keeps food warm or toasts burger buns while the main meal grills below.
  • Side Tables: Convenient side tables provide space for platters, seasonings, and tools.
  • Grill Cabinet: The enclosed cabinet offers storage for the LP tank and electronic components.
  • Direct Heat Setup: Recommended for small, tender pieces of food that cook in less than 20 minutes (e.g., hamburgers, steaks, chops, kabobs, boneless chicken pieces, fish fillets, shellfish, sliced vegetables). The fire is directly below the food, searing surfaces and developing flavors.
  • Indirect Heat Setup: Recommended for larger cuts of meat that require 20 minutes or more of grilling time, or delicate foods that would dry out or scorch over direct heat (e.g., roasts, bone-in poultry pieces, whole fish, whole chickens, turkeys, ribs). Heat is applied from the sides of the grill, or off to one side, with food placed over the unlit part of the cooking grate.
  • Preheating: Essential for successful grilling, preheating prevents food from sticking and ensures proper searing. The grill should be preheated on the highest setting for 15 minutes with the lid closed.
  • LP Tank Installation: Detailed instructions are provided for installing the LP tank onto the tank scale, ensuring proper connection of the regulator coupling.
  • Leak Checking: A critical safety step to perform after LP tank installation and annually, using a soap and water solution to check for gas leaks at various fittings.
  • Refilling/Replacing LP Tank: Instructions for removing an empty LP tank and installing a full one, including checking the fuel level indicator on the tank scale.

Maintenance Features

  • Meal-to-Meal Maintenance: Simple steps to perform before each grilling session:
    • Check for Grease: Regularly remove excess grease from the slide-out grease tray and disposable drip pan to prevent fires.
    • Inspect the Hose: Check the gas hose for signs of cracking, abrasions, or cuts.
    • Clean the Cooking Grate: Brush the grates with a stainless steel bristle grill brush after preheating to remove food bits and debris.
  • Thorough Cleaning (Recommended at least twice a year, quarterly with consistent use):
    • Cleaning the Inside of the Grill: Scrape carbonized grease from the lid with a stainless steel bristle grill brush. Wipe the inside of the lid with a paper towel while warm to minimize build-up.
    • Cleaning the Cooking Grates: Brush installed grates with a stainless steel bristle grill brush, then remove and set aside.
    • Cleaning the FLAVORIZER BARS: Scrape with a plastic scraper, then brush with a stainless steel bristle grill brush if necessary. Remove and set aside.
    • Cleaning the Burners:
      • Burner Ports: Use a clean stainless steel bristle grill brush to clean across the top of the burner ports, avoiding brushing lengthwise.
      • Ignition Electrode: Carefully brush around the ignition electrode on burner 1.
      • Spider Screens: Clean the spider/insect screens on the ends of the burners (where they meet the valves) using a soft bristle brush to ensure proper oxygen flow.
    • Cleaning the Cookbox: Scrape debris off the sides and bottom of the cookbox into the opening that leads to the slide-out catch pan.
    • Cleaning the Grease Management System: Regularly remove and clean the angled slide-out grease tray and catch pan.
    • Cleaning the Outside of the Grill:
      • Stainless Steel Surfaces: Use a non-toxic, non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner or polish with a microfiber cloth, cleaning in the direction of the grain.
      • Painted, Porcelain-Enameled, and Plastic Components: Clean with warm soapy water and paper towels or cloth, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
    • Cleaning in Unique Environments: For grills in harsh environments (e.g., coastal areas, near pools), wipe down the exterior more often with warm soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly. Weekly application of stainless steel cleaner may be beneficial.
    • Cleaning the Inside of the Cabinet: Wipe with a soft, damp cloth, being careful around electronic components.
  • Food Temperature Probe Care: Clean probes by wiping with water and a damp cloth. Probes are not dishwasher safe or waterproof and should not be submerged in water or other liquids. Store indoors when not in use.
  • Battery Replacement: Instructions for replacing the six D alkaline batteries in the WEBER CONNECT module, located inside the cabinet.
  • Auxiliary Power Input: Option to connect an external rechargeable power bank (sold separately) to power the WEBER CONNECT module, providing an alternative to alkaline batteries.
