Overview

This document describes the Weber Spirit E-310 Premium barbecue, a gas-fueled outdoor cooking appliance designed for private single-family home or apartment use. It is not intended for commercial, communal, or multi-unit settings. The barbecue utilizes Universal Liquefied Petroleum Gas (ULPG) and is equipped with a pressure regulator to control and maintain uniform gas pressure.

Function Description

The Weber Spirit E-310 Premium barbecue is designed for outdoor cooking, providing a versatile platform for grilling various foods. Its primary function is to cook food using gas burners, with a lid that allows for covered cooking, mimicking a convection oven. The Flavorizer™ System, consisting of specially angled bars, is designed to enhance the "outdoor" flavor by vaporizing meat juices that drip onto them, creating smoke. This system, combined with the unique burner design and flexible temperature controls, aims to minimize uncontrolled flare-ups. The barbecue also features a grease collection system that funnels excess fats and drippings away from the food into a slide-out grease tray and catch pan, simplifying cleanup and reducing the risk of grease fires.

Usage Features

The barbecue is designed for ease of use with several features to enhance the cooking experience:

  • Preheating: Before cooking, it's crucial to preheat the barbecue. All burners should be set to high with the lid closed for 10-15 minutes, or until the thermometer reaches 260°C (500°F). This ensures uniform heat distribution for optimal cooking.
  • Covered Cooking: All barbecuing is intended to be done with the lid down. This creates an evenly circulated heat environment, similar to a convection oven, and the lid's thermometer indicates the internal cooking temperature. Keeping the lid closed helps retain heat and cook food more efficiently.
  • Burner Ignition: The barbecue offers two methods for igniting burner 1:
    • Electronic Crossover™ Ignition System: This system uses a spark from an igniter electrode within the Gas Catcher ignition chamber. Users push an igniter button to generate the spark. Burner 1 must be ignited first, and then burners 2 and 3 can be lit from burner 1. It's critical to open the barbecue lid before igniting to prevent explosive flare-ups.
    • Match Lighting: In case the electronic ignition fails, burners can be lit with a match using a matchstick holder. Similar to electronic ignition, the lid must be open, and burner 1 ignited first.
  • Temperature Control: Individual burner controls allow for adjustment of cooking temperatures after preheating, accommodating different recipes and cooking styles.
  • Food Handling: Tongs are recommended for turning and handling meats to preserve natural juices, while two spatulas are suggested for large whole fish.
  • Grease Management: The slide-out grease tray and catch pan should be kept clean and free from debris to prevent grease fires. Disposable drip pans are available for the catch pan to further simplify cleanup.
  • Fuel Level Indicator: Some models include a cylinder scale with an orange level indicator to show the gas supply, helping users know when to refill the LPG cylinder before it runs out.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the safe and efficient operation of the Weber Spirit E-310 Premium barbecue. Key maintenance tasks include:

  • Leak Checks: A leak check is mandatory before the first use, anytime a gas fitting is disconnected and reconnected, and after routine maintenance. This involves applying a soap and water solution to gas connections; bubble formation indicates a leak. If a leak persists after tightening, the barbecue should not be operated, and customer service should be contacted.
  • Hose Inspection: The gas supply hose should be routinely inspected for nicks, cracking, abrasions, or cuts. A damaged hose must be replaced with a Weber-authorized replacement hose. It is recommended to replace the gas hose assembly every five years, or sooner if local requirements dictate.
  • Spider/Insect Screens: The combustion air openings of the burner tubes are fitted with stainless steel screens to prevent spiders and other insects from building nests that can obstruct gas flow. These screens should be inspected and cleaned annually to prevent blockages that can lead to yellow, lazy flames or gas odors, and potentially fires.
  • Burner Tube Ports: Over time, burner tube ports can become dirty and restrict gas flow, leading to uneven heating or burners failing to ignite. Annual cleaning of the burner tubes is recommended. This involves removing the burner tubes and cleaning the inside with a wire and a suitable brush, and the outside with a steel bristle brush. Care must be taken not to enlarge the burner ports or damage the igniter electrode during cleaning.
  • Grease Tray and Catch Pan Cleaning: The slide-out grease tray and catch pan should be checked and cleaned before each use to remove grease build-up. Excess grease should be scraped out, and the components washed with warm, soapy water and rinsed. Aluminum foil should not be used to line the slide-out grease tray as it can obstruct grease flow.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Painted, enameled, plastic, and stainless steel surfaces should be cleaned with a warm, soapy water solution and a soft cloth, then rinsed and wiped dry. Abrasive cleaners, oven cleaner, or harsh chemicals should be avoided. Stainless steel surfaces should be scrubbed in the direction of the grain.
  • Inside Lid Cleaning: Flaking, baked-on grease inside the lid should be wiped with a paper towel and washed with warm, soapy water to prevent build-up. This "peeling" is carbonized grease, not paint.
  • Cookbox Components Cleaning: Cooking grates and Flavorizer™ bars should be scraped and brushed to remove debris and grease. They can also be washed with warm, soapy water. Barbecue brushes should be checked for loose bristles and replaced regularly.
  • Electronic Crossover™ Ignition System Maintenance: If the electronic ignition system fails, users should check the AA battery (alkaline only) for proper installation and condition, ensure igniter wires are correctly attached to the igniter module, and verify that the ceramic igniter assembly is fully inserted into the burner tube igniter channel.
  • Storage: When storing the barbecue, especially indoors, the LPG cylinder must be disconnected and stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area. The gas supply should always be turned off at the cylinder when the barbecue is not in use.

This comprehensive approach to usage and maintenance ensures the Weber Spirit E-310 Premium barbecue remains a safe and effective cooking appliance for many years.
