SAFETY RULES & PRECAUTIONS
Failure to follow safety rules and precautions couid result in serious personai injury.
A. KNOW YOUR UNIT
1. Read your Operator's Manual carefully until
you completely understand and can follow
all safety rules, pecautlons, and operating In
structions before operating the unit.
2. Restrict your unit to users who understand
and follow all safety rules, precautions, and
operating Instructions found in this manual.
B. PLAN AHEAD
1. Always wear eye protection. Rocks or other
debris couid be thrown into eyes and face.
2. Dress safely in long pants and wear boots or
safety shoes. Do not wear loose clothing,
jewelry, short pants or sandals; or go bare
foot.
3. Do not operate the unit when you are tired, ill
or upset; or if you are under the Influence of
alcohol, drugs or medication.
4. Inspect the area to be cut before starting the
unit. Remove all debris and objects that
couid be thrown, become entangled in the
cutting head, or cause damage during cut
ting.
5. Keep children, bystanders, and pets a safe
distance away from the work area — a
minimum of .30 feet.
C. HANDLE FUEL WITH CAUTION
1. Eliminate ali sources of sparks or flame (In
cluding smoking, open flames, or work that
could cause sparks,) In the areas where fuel
Is mixea, poured, or stored.
2. Mix, pour, and store fuel in a weli-ventiiated
area and in an approved, marked container.
3. Do not smoke while handling fuel or while
operating the unit.
4. Wipe up ail spills before starting the engine.
5. Move at ieast 10 feet (3 meters) away from
fuel and fueling site before starting the
engine.
D. OPERATE YOUR UNIT SAFELY

Inspect the entire unit before each use for
loose or damaged parts. Do not use until the
unit Is In proper working order.
Never use wire In place of the nylon cutting
line. The wire tip can break off during cutting
and become a dangerous missile.
Keep the handles free of oil and fuel.
Never start or run the engine inside a ciosed
iroom or building. Exhaust fumes contain
dangerous carbon monoxide.
Make certain the cutting head stops turning
when the throttle trigger is released and the
engine runs at idle speed. Refer to carburetor
adjustment Instructions If cutting head doe.=
not stop.
Avoid bodily contact with the muffler. Usv
caution when changing operating positions.
The muffler area can be hot and can cause
serious burns.
Keep your body clear of the cutting head
while the unit is in use.
Do not operate in a position over waist high.
Do not overreach. Keep firm footing and
balance at all times.
Run the engine at full throttle only when cut
ting.
Stop the engine before removing the fuel
cap.
E. MAINTAIN YOUR UNIT PROPERLY
1. Maintain the unit according to recommend
ed procedures. Always keep the cutting line
at the proper length.
2. Disconnect the spark plug before performing
maintenance except for carburetor adjust
ment.
3. Use only genuine WEED EATER® repiace-
ment parts that are identical to original
equipment. The use of any part or accessory,
not specifically designed for this unit, could
create a hazard.
4. Always drain fuel from the fuel tank after
each use.
5. Do not store the unit or fuei in a closed area
where fuel vapors can reach an open flame
from hot water heaters, furnaces, etc.
6. Store in a dry area out of the reach of
children.
