Weed Eater 1700 - Operating Instructions

1. NEW ENGINE BREAK-IN
a. Accelerate the engine to full throttle for
1-2 minutes right after you start the engine
for the first time. This al lows the engine to
warm-up and burn off any oil that could be
on the clutch. Unless the engine Is proper
ly broken-ln, the cutting head may not turn
properly the first time you try to use the
unit. It Is not necessary to repeat this pro
cedure.
b. Avoid heavy usage until the engine has
burned one tankful of fuei mix. This will
al low time for parts to seat properly.
2. COLD ENGINE STARTING
a. Pull choke knob out fully, Figure 6.
b. Grip rear handle and squeeze trigger with
right hand.
c. Pull starter rope sharply with left hand un
til engine pops or attempts to run.
d. Push choke knob In until half choke posi
tion Is felt. Figure 7.
e. Pull starter rope sharply until engine runs.
f. After 5 second warm up, push choke knob
In fully. Figure 8.
3. WARM ENGINE STARTING
a. Pull choke knob out until half choke posi
tion Is felt. Figure 7.
b. Grip rear handle and squeeze trigger with
right hand.
c. Pull starter rope sharply with left hand un
til engine runs.
d. Push choke knob In fully. Figure 8.
WARNING!
Avoid any bodiiy contact with the muffier
when starting a warm engine. The muffier
area can be hot and could cause serious
burns.
4. WARM ENGINE STARTING-
AFTER RUNNING OUT OF GAS
a. Pull choke knob out fully. Figure 6.
b. Grip rear handle with right hand and
squeeze trigger fully.
c. Pull starter rope sharply with left hand 2-4
times.
d. Push choke knob In fully when engine at
tempts to run. Figure 8.
e. Pull starter rope until engine runs, but no
more than 4 times.
NOTE: If engine does not run after 4 pulls. It
could be flooded. Walt a few minutes and
repeat procedure using half choke. Figure 7.

D. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
For maximum performance and efficiency:
1. Always accelerate the engine to the desired
speed before cutting.
2. Never operate the engine at a higher speed
than necessary.
3. Always release the trigger and allow the
engine to return to idle speed when not cut-
8 ting.
Stop engine by pressing the "OFF" button
(Figure 9) or by pulling the choke knob to full
choke position (Figure 6). Hold button down
until engine stops.
Let your authorized service dealer make car
buretor adjustments. The carburetor has
been carefully adjusted at the factory for sea
level conditions. Carburetor adjustment may
become necessary if the unit Is used at
significantly higher altitudes. See "Engine
Adjustments", page 9.
